A little strawberry update from the farm. 🍓🍓
Many of you have noticed that our strawberry table has been looking a little empty lately, and we wanted to explain why.
Strawberries produce in what growers call a “first flush” and a “second flush.” The first flush is that big burst of beautiful, juicy berries that arrives all at once. After that heavy production, the plants take a short breather before gearing up for their second flush later in the season.
Right now, we’re in that in-between stage.
For the next couple of weeks, we’ll have very few strawberries available—and some days, none at all. If we’ve been a little quiet about strawberries lately, it’s not because we’re hoarding them, sending them somewhere else, or keeping secrets. The simple truth is that the plants are taking a well-earned rest before they start producing again.
To be honest, this year’s strawberry demand caught us by surprise. We knew people loved our berries, but we didn’t realize quite how much! That’s a good problem to have, and we’re already looking at ways to improve production in the future so we can keep more of your favourite berries on the table.
In the meantime, while we wait for round two…
Can we interest you in some beautiful hothouse tomatoes?🍅🍅🍅
Picked fresh daily in Nanaimo, BC, our tomatoes are coming into their own right now—vine-ripened, flavourful, and perfect for summer salads, sandwiches, and backyard dinners.
