Yesterday’s consult was for a shared living/dining space. The rooms were very outdated with pink carpet in the living room and burgundy striped paint on the walls of the dining room. The living room furniture consisted of light blue sofas with large print pink flowers. The dining room furniture involved bulky cherry red wood furniture (hutch, sideboard, dining table and chairs)-1990s. The clients want to keep that dinning room furniture for sentimental reasons. The challenge: make the rooms flow and appear more modern while keeping the traditional cherry red furniture. Client’s style: Modern traditional. My recomendations: light hardwood through out, remove the doors/frame and widen the opening, repaint all walls the same color-light, Sectional sofa and 1 accent chair (rust, olive green or grey) that pops, remove outdated curtains/valence and replace with more modern semi-sheer curtains, replace the light fixture to a more modern/traditional chandelier, re-upholster the chairs to a linen color, artwork with gold frames, and declutter the rooms from all knick knacks. Mood board created and provided. Looking forward to the final result. 🙂
