How many cabbage moth caterpillars can you spot?!
Despite covering my brassicas with insect netting, cabbage moth got in. Yesterday I went to pick the first broccolini florets only to discover the very many caterpillars on my broccolini. I hand picked over 50 off of 8 plants, no joke! I’m sure I missed some.
Cabbage moth lay eggs on the leaves, and when the larvae emerge they feed on the leaves. These green caterpillars blend in beautifully with leafy greens. Signs of cabbage moth larvae are holes in or completely eaten leaves (sometimes only the main vein remains) and frass (caterpillar p**p). At this stage, removing them by hand is the best way to get rid of them.
