Sub contract day with check out this nice old White Pine.

Unfortunately it leaned pretty hard towards the building and had been dripping sap for years. Two old wounds about 2/3 the way up never healed properly. After I removed some limbs to help it fit between the other trees and have less back weight to pull. Cobbold cut a very precise notch, we used a combination of wedges and a high pull line. Gently coaxing it over, he made a perfect shot.

had a white pine leaning towards the chair lift. With snow loading it was starting to impede the lift. Long term it would have posed a significant risk. Fortunately they were proactive.

While there are many factors in coming to the conclusion of removal, it really is the last option. Sometimes getting ahead of maintenance can both save costs as well mitigate risks.

Turned out there was very crispy bonus behind it too.

This pine tree had been severely damaged by a storm, leading to the loss of a large base stem and leaving it unbalanced with a large exposure point at the root flare. Additionally, a porcupine had removed large portions of bark, causing sap to pour out. The pine pitch can be dangerous to climbers as it can cause climbing and rigging equipment to malfunction, including my saw's throttle, which can become stuck open, creating a potentially hazardous situation while climbing.

In operating a less conventional tree care service, I focus on interacting with and educating my clients. On this day the gentleman had started to remove his declining maple. While not wanting to give up the project he also realized some of the risks and limitations of his knowledge. When it's safe to do so, I may offer as much engagement and technical explanation as possible. Never in a rush and I'm excited to share my passion.
