Posted • The Scotsburn Community Food Forest, now in the heart of its sixth growing season, has become a beacon of Local Food Security, place making, knowledge and educational learnings for resilient food systems. Established as a grassroots effort by dedicated volunteers, the Food Forest aims to create an edible, medicinal gathering and learning space for current and future generations. This year’s Garden Party Fundraiser not only celebrates this milestone but also raises crucial funds to support ongoing projects and expansions. On Saturday august 16 2-430 pm
The event will be held at 4179 Scotsburn Road at the Scotsburn Firehall. The doors will open at 2pm for mingling, silent auction, 50/50, and music. the Program, speakers and late snack lunch will begin at 3 pm with the event ending around 430 pm
The event will feature a variety of activities designed to engage and entertain guests, including exciting and unique door prizes, a silent auction full of locally sourced, mindful items, and insightful speakers connected to local food security, place making and biodiversity movements. Among the notable speakers are representatives Raina McDonald, Scotsburn Recreation Club and the Butterflyway Project, who will share their expertise and in-sights on sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite link in the bio.

Something extra special in the pollinator garden this year. Last year Dawn Westhaver started an incredible amount of swamp milkweed to share in the community. A few happened to be white (the green stems give it away). This garden has no milkweed in it so the white won’t be cross pollinated with a pink plant (the more dominant). Looking forward to it growing and blooming and hosting some monarchs in the near future!

Incorporating a dead hedge by the garden has been a plan for a while. Unfortunately our Japanese Maple had to be taken down, but it’s given lots to this creative process. Only 5 gazillion more branches to go. 🐦‍⬛🌻🌿🌱🍁🪾

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
While we’re out in the garden today, we’re taking a moment to think about the history of this land—and the Indigenous Peoples who’ve been caring for it for thousands of years.

This land has deep roots, and we’re grateful to learn from the wisdom and stewardship of the Mi’kma’ki who’ve always known how to live in balance with nature.

Let’s keep growing, learning, and working toward a better future—together. 🌿❤️
