Hmmm… the Yucca is already touching the poly… What will we do next year?!

Although it is -17°C outside, this geranium is still brightening up some of winters coldest days. Thanks to the greenhouse, we can see a geranium in full bloom soaking up the sun’s rays in Canada… In January. It is so cold out there that any moisture that touches the poly on the north side of the greenhouse forms a thin layer of ice on the inside of the greenhouse. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but that thin layer of ice even helps with heat retention!

The brilliance of a greenhouse. Although it is -9°C out with no help from the sun for another 11 hours, the temperature under such little poly is 15.9°C. Right now it is housing tropical plants, some annuals that were worth saving, and some microgreens.

What else should I grow?!

A predator stalking it’s prey on a heliopsis. Although these red aphids are a pest, removing them will also remove a food source for the beautiful predatory ladybug! I like to make sure that the pest I am dealing with is in fact harming the plant before taking action. Disrupting mother nature’s balance is a very big decision to make; Chow down ladybug, chow down!
