Give an early Christmas present to a loved one in need of a clean up. Call us to get us over to their yard! That storm was a doozy!

An update in central Westview. A tired old curb side turned stunningly harmonious, new and completely uncomplicated.

Fave bits: a simple design with plantings that her aging mother will enjoy as she’s taken in and out of her home for appointments 💗 I get to witness the self sacrificing love many clients have as they care for their loved ones. I relish the privilege I have in getting to hear their stories and the job I have in designing gardens that compliment these journeys. Keeping things completely. Utterly. Human.

Tricky bits: nothing so tricky here. It was a first time using concrete paint! That was a fun addition to this job. Spruce up without breaking the bank 🏦

Cranberry hills! I love Cranberry. We were looking at moving to Powell River to live the dream. We looked at a few places in that neck of the woods. After we had settled into our home (though fate had it that we settled close to Grief Point) our realtor asked us: “So why Cranberry?” He wanted to know what the draw was for us. My response? It is just so green! If we couldn’t be by the water, we would certainly have enjoyed the GREEN that is Cranberry. Along with its quaint persona, it still has a piece of my heart!

Fave bits: the green you see here is white clover. We did not plant any grass. Clover and coastal wild flower mix in the back. 🐝 making sure those bees keep buzzing!

Tricky bits: ??? Speaking of bees! There were mud wasps of some sort when the team was clearing the brush from the forested side yard! Yowch! We gave them extra mulch to love and treaded lightly as we cleared potential flammables.

Garden hack:

This girl loves to dig anywhere I put the shovel! Obsessed with working the ground and pulling out stubborn roots. I’m glad she’s on my team! Building a water feature for my family has never been easier 💁🏼‍♀️ and after a drink and a treat, she’s climbing the stairs up to her bed.

Super enjoying my time at ‘home’ revving up for spring installs and maintenance!!!

I meet with four clients tomorrow, I’m working on a design for another and am focussed on tool maintenance in the back shed quarters!

I’ve been sipping this locally made concoction… golden paste from a friend to fight inflammation during cold season, dosing pine pollen tea from more friends at Gathered Farm and enjoying figgy jam from an amazing client (turns friend!!) special gifting at Christmastime 💝

Yessssss we tarped it!!! Why? I thought you’d never ask 🤓😏 we tarped the yard becausssssse:

1. It was too cold and late in the season to germinate seed
2. The tarping reduces compaction from the rain, acting as a barrier between soil and sky. We want nice floofy soil, not hard compact ground come spring
3. It saves the nutrients in the soil for when we need it! No nutrient runoff, thank you very much!
4. It prevents w**ds from falling onto our w**d free soil while it awaits grass seed
5. It keeps everyone tucked in neat and tidy during final stages of construction on this new home!

Fave bits: we LOVE that these clients chose to have the soil already in place so that when spring is in the air, we can get growing as soon as it’s warm enough. We also love that these clients made sure to purchase soil as opposed to… more sand for their lawn.

Tricky bits: honestly… none…??? I guess it was getting kinda cold and rainy here at the end. After all, this was our very last job of 2023. But the ladies truly rocked it 🤟🏻 we are NOT fair weather workers 👊🏻

This house in Wildwood is super special. So much love has been poured into it and the land that it’s on since its purchase. These home owners have so many great plans for it, including growing as much food as is sustainable on their own.

Fave bits: we love that they got us to rescue this little maple from the wastelands. It was going to be ripped out for a fence neighbouring their yard. Repurposing it as a shade tree in this VERY hot front yard was the right call. We love that we transplanted every plant you see here, even the tree, with such successful results!

Tricky bits: and when I say hot… I really mean HOT. This was a late summer job and man oh man. It was the one and only time we will work in such crazy heat. We lived IN the sprinklers. 💦

Drainage gains! These guys were beside themselves, not knowing what the heck they could do to fix their swamp of a yard.

Fave bits: umm to be honest, the friends we gained! Steve and Susan were right in there visiting with us. Leaving with wine bottles in hand and checking out their cheese operation were the cherries on top. We spent a lot of time at this place blasting the tunes. Though the pic doesn’t show it, we completely took this swamp back and planted a beautiful azalea 🌺 garden. We replaced the original ‘drainage’ pipes and brought it all the way to the street.

Tricky bits: it was a hide and seek operation. We couldn’t completely settle on the plan until we knew what was happening!!! With all of upper Westview’s water draining INTO their backyard and water logging it, we have videos of a continuous flow of what looks like natural springs bubbling up into their yard. This was a handy man special turned sorely mistaken on the ‘handy’ part to remedy it years past. Well, we turned it into a pipes of your dreams project!!! Do it right and it will stand the test of time, do it wrong and well… it will suck, severely. Just look at that clogg!

Lookout Cranberry! We’re stepping it up big time in the landscape department.

Fave bits: we love when clients ask us for native plants in the design. These guys are young adults who JUST built their home in Cranberry and even put money aside for the landscaping so that our part was finished before they moved in. Many who build their home do not put such priority on the land. So impressive that they care about the environment beyond their own yard and managed to pull this all off all the while working and going to school. This fire pit is made from resources already on site, built from the land. Landscaping can be more affordable than one may think ☝️!

Tricky bits: it took a LOT of content to build up the yard levels on this one! So. Much. Fill. We’re thankful there are dump trucks and slinger trucks for such a thing as this!

So many gains on this one. More space, added privacy, less clutter. Another townsite gem.

There are always tough bits to each job. I want to be authentic in what the fave bits were and what the tough bits were

Fave bits: taking back what’s theirs. Prime real estate folks! Those few extra feet of yard are yours? A common question we ask: Why aren’t we maximizing your property’s potential?.. And then we did. Now there’s room for that sauna.

Tricky bits: this one was 😔🫤
We certainly learned to go straight to the source when getting permission to access a yard from the neighbour’s side! Can’t just take your word for it. 😳 Lesson learned. 😅
