Inflation called. It wants your throw pillows. Good news: don't buy any.

With the cost of everything going up, now might be the perfect time to decorate the way our grandparents did... by moving stuff around until it looked better. 😆

That mirror you've walked past for 5 years? Move it.
That chair that's become a clothes rack? Give it a promotion.
Those cushions hiding in the spare room? Put them to work.

Sometimes a fresh look doesn't come from a store—it comes from seeing your own home with fresh eyes.

At Style This House, we're big fans of making what you already own work harder. Your wallet will thank you, and your house won't know what hit it.

What's one thing in your home that could use a change of scenery? 👇

Before you open a single home decor app to buy a new area rug, do me a favor...Walk into your dining room. Look under the table.

Is there a gorgeous, textured rug hiding under there that you barely see because of the chairs?

The other day, I dragged a client's dining room rug into their living room. Suddenly, the living room felt cozy, grounded, and expensive.

And the dining room? We left the hardwoods bare, and it instantly felt bigger and cleaner.

Total cost: $0.

That’s the magic of looking at your floors with fresh eyes.

One of my favourite ways to make our bathroom feel a little more special is by styling the counter with things I already have at home.

I didn’t buy anything fancy for this little setup — just layered a few simple pieces together:
🌸 a floral print I love
🤍 some faux flowers for softness
🧼 a pretty soap bar
🪞 and a decorative tray to keep everything feeling organized and intentional

It’s such an easy way to make the space feel calmer, prettier, and a bit more “finished” without spending a lot of money.

I always say bathrooms deserve styling too — even small corners can feel beautiful with a little creativity!

This clients bedroom is a great example of the 60-30-10 colour rule — a simple formula I use to make a room feel balanced, cozy, and pulled together without spending a fortune.

60% – Your main colour
Here, the warm beige walls and carpet take up most of the space. This is your “background” colour.

30% – Your secondary colour
The rich dark wood furniture and charcoal bedding add depth and contrast acting as supporting colour that gives the room personality.

10% – Your accent colour
The mustard throw and cushions are the finishing touch. A small pop of colour goes a long way and instantly makes the room feel styled.

The best part? You don’t need to buy all new decor to try this at home.

Look around your house:

neutral sofa = your 60%
curtains, rug, or furniture = your 30%
cushions, throws, candles, books, or art = your 10%

That little 10% is where the magic happens. Swap it seasonally or whenever you want a fresh look without redoing the whole room.

Before you buy more décor, shop your linen closet first!

Throws, blankets, pillow covers, and neutral linens can completely refresh a space without spending a dollar. Sometimes the best styling pieces are the ones already folded away. 🤍

Styling your home can feel overwhelming when you think you need to buy all new décor. But the secret? Start with what you already have!

These cobalt blue glass vases became a statement simply by grouping them together and adding fresh greenery for height and texture. No expensive makeover — just intentional styling using pieces already in the home.

If your space feels unfinished, try this: shop your own house first. Rearrange, layer, and repurpose before spending money on more stuff. Sometimes the missing piece is just a fresh perspective. 💙

A few years ago, I honestly thought every room problem needed a shopping trip.

New pillows.
New furniture.
New decor.
New everything.

But the more homes I worked in, the more I realized something important:

Most homes already have good pieces. They’re just not working together properly yet.

That shift completely changed how I design.

Now one of my favorite things to do is walk into a home and say: “Wait… let’s use THIS somewhere else.”

A lamp from the bedroom.
A tray from the kitchen.
Curtains moved to another room.
Art leaned instead of hung.

And suddenly the house feels intentional again — without spending thousands.

That’s the magic of shopping your own home first ✨

Stop centering everything in your room! Yes… even the sofa. 😅

Perfect symmetry looks great in photos — but in real life, it can make a room feel a little stiff… like it’s trying too hard. If your space feels flat, this is usually why.

Try moving just one thing today and see what happens.
Trust me… it works!

Is your nightstand currently buried under charging cables and old receipts? 😴 Before you go shopping for a whole new 'bedside aesthetic,' let's clear the decks. The secret to a high-end look is intentionality, not new stuff.

Grab a book you’ve already read (hardcovers look great!), a simple glass jar for some backyard blooms, and that lamp from the office. Shop your home for items that bring you peace, not more clutter to manage.

Post a photo of your refreshed nightstand in your stories and tag me! I want to see those 'found' treasures.

Is your living room feeling a little tight? 🪞 Before you look at knocking down walls, shop your house for a large mirror!

Tucking a floor-length mirror into a corner or beside a fireplace—like this black-framed beauty—instantly doubles your light and creates the illusion of a much larger space. It’s the oldest designer trick in the book, and it costs exactly zero dollars if you already own one!

Go find a mirror in a guest room or hallway and try it in your main living area today. (even if you have to repaint the frame) Tag me in your 'before and after' stories!
