This week, our office will be closed Thursday as Canada will mark the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation remembering and honouring residential school survivors and their families.

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility for all Canadians and requires action not just on this day, but every day.

We can learn more and reflect on the meaning of this day by attending an event, reading the Truth and Reconciliation report, speaking and listening to Elders or taking a moment for quiet reflection.

Did you know?
You can read the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to action here https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1524494530110/1557511412801

Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis's story and launched in 2013. Its goal is to educate people about residential schools in Canada and to honour and remember the experiences and loss of the First Nation, Inuit and Métis children who were stolen from their families and placed in these schools.

The feather is a powerful symbol that signifies honor and a connection between the owner, the Creator, and the bird from which the feather came.

Ranco acknowledges we operate on Treaty 6 land and the homeland of the Métis. Treaty 6 was signed by Crown representatives and Cree, Assiniboine and Ojibwa leaders on 23 August 1876 at Fort Carlton, Saskatchewan, and on 9 September 1876 at Fort Pitt, Saskatchewan.

What a year 2020 has been! We are so very grateful. A huge thank you to our customers, suppliers and our Ranco team.

Our clients continued to support us, meaning we kept everyone employed. We got to do what we love – building millwork and helping people.

Our suppliers did amazing things ensuring we had the materials to produce our millwork. There were some disruptions and challenges, but magic happened, and materials arrived.

Our staff did their part to stay healthy and worked really hard to reach some rather challenging project timelines. They’re excellent at what they do.

The icing on the cake was finishing a spectacular project for MLT Aikins LLP Saskatoon…AND being recognized wit three industry awards for the project. https://www.ranco.ca/our-work/projects/mlt-aikins/

While we don’t know what 2021 will bring, we do know it will be filled with great people!

As a family business, we love giving back to other families.

It's our tradition to donate pallets of oats – from Saskatchewan fields of course – so families can enjoy a warm breakfast.

The Food Bank is seeing an increase in demand. If you can, please help by donating www.SaskatoonFoodBank.org

Do you remember your first laptop?

Early in my career it was a huge sense of accomplishment when I was issued my first laptop. I proudly lugged around my 10 pound laptop. Now, I'm grateful for the mobility my laptop affords me and the smaller 2.5 pound weight!

Toshiba released their first laptop in 1985 - the first IBM compatible laptop - and now they have decided to stop making laptops.

The firm was a leader in laptops through the 1990s and much of the 2000s.

I'll never look at a restaurant menu the same. Fascinating read about the business of designing menus.

Last time I ate out, I focused on the disposable menu. Now I can’t wait to eat out so I can look at the menu layout. Will it change my selection?

Ever wondered where flavoured ice cream was invented?

Turns out it was in London by a woman entrepreneur who was an industry disrupter.

In 1883 Agnes Marshall opened a shop on Mortimer Street in London. She published several cookbooks including "The Book of Ices" and patented one of the earliest home ice cream makers.

Read more about how this woman helped us with one of our fav comfort foods - ice cream!

More than a century before Instagram, Agnes B. Marshall mastered the art of extravagant, over-the-top ice cream designs.
