With heating season upon us, we want to remind you to check your heat pump filters. For mini splits, check monthly and clean when dust is starting to visibly accumulate. Also- ask your installer if your mini split might require a deep cleaning.

For centrally ducted heat pumps, check the filter every three months and replace as necessary.

***There are reports of heat pump companies going door to door in Cumberland County, and pressuring homeowners into purchasing heat pump systems and offering to help with rebate paperwork. While this arrangement may initially seem attractive, history has shown that companies who aren't local usually do not support and service the product over the long term. Homeowners are then left with no one willing to help solve issues or perform repairs.
Please do your homework and strive to buy local. Not just for Cumberland County, but for your own long-term peace of mind.***

***A reminder to take 10 minutes to clean the filters in your mini split heat pump. Filters should be checked once a month and cleaned when some build up of dust is evident.
For a ducted heat pump system, check the filter every 3 months and change as necessary but once a year regardless. ***

***Just a suggestion: Turn off the circuit breaker for your heat pump and any other sensitive electronic appliances in your home while waiting for power to be restored. Sometimes when the power is turned on there are issues that could cause electricity fluctuations potentially damaging appliances with sensitive electronic controls. It would be best to wait a few hours until it is clearly evident that the power is consistently of good quality. Thankfully the weather is mild with no urgent need for heat.***

There has been a lot of talk lately about deep cleaning heat pumps. These units do not need the attention that is being advertised. They definitely should be checked to determine if they need cleaned or not. If they do not need cleaned, they should not be cleaned. It is critical that any work done on a heat pump be done by a qualified person, and ideally by the dealer it was purchased from. There are sensitive parts inside that can be damaged and would not be covered under warranty. The accumulation of dirt which can cause mould only happens during the air-conditioning season. Units are best checked in September or October to see if they need cleaned or not. It is not a good idea to clean a unit that does not need cleaned as damage can occur. Call the company you purchased your heat pump from to have your unit checked.
