Hey everybody,

We’ve been nominated this year for 2022 Faces Ottawa Awards for General Contracting, by one of our fantastic clients this year. This came as quite the surprise, and we are humbled and honoured to know that our clients were so pleased after choosing to work with us.

Any further support moving forward with this nomination from our community would be greatly appreciated. Voting is open for the entire month and can apparently be done on a daily basis.

Here’s one of our latest completions. Just a quick refresh with new 4 1/4” Mirage duramat maple flooring, new 12x24 tile inlaid at the fireplace, custom cabinets from The Woodturner Corp here in Stittsville and some new ledgestone to finish it all off.

Here are some before and after pictures of our latest completion. Another big thanks to the guys at Ring Electric for taking care of the wiring for us and to Ken for the painting. Everything else from demolition to plumbing, finishing trim and everything in between was all taken care of by myself and Justin.

Here's what you don't hope to find on day 2 of a bathroom renovation....

We found signs of a leaking toilet seal the second the toilet was removed and the signs only became more glaring as more layers were opened. We had to open the floor to replace the water damaged sheeting only to find that the plumber hacked out about 50% of the 2x10 floor joist. This is only a short spanning section of floor joists but you can see in the third picture just how much it's sagged over the years. We're about to install a heated tile floor so this can't leave this as is.

Now for the repair we've laminated 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood to either side of the joist and tried to remove as much of the sag as possible. Unfortunately this joist has been settling for almost 40 years so short of removing it we're not going to be able to get it all out. We make sure to cut what we need using hole saws to maintain as much structural strength as possible. An arch is always stronger then a flat cut. A wave of PL Premium with 3 screws every 12" and offset on the other side and we're done. We also want to keep our cut outs as small and close to the pipe to maintain as much material and strength as we can.

And now, we can cover and get back to the rest of the renovation.

Here’s a past completion from late summer that I’ve neglected to post. The first picture is from last Christmas, our mason was able to start early and I wasn’t able to get a more recent photo of the house before he started.

We did a full restructure and water damage repair around and under the front door. Our mason was able to remove and clean the existing brick so we could keep a clean original looking finish. The new door structure was almost doubled in size to allow a full 36” door with side lites to replace the old 32” front door. A new concrete door sill and shutters round out the face lift for 2017. A new self supported entrance roofline is scheduled for 2018 to complete the transformation.

Who says you can’t cut circles into tile or sculpt tiles free hand? It’s a slower more time consuming process and requires more specific tools, blades and a steady hand sure. But the end result is worth it.

Full temporary dust protection before we start our demolition. 6mm vapour barrier sealed to walls and floor with adjustable quick support struts makes for quick setup and tear down with no holes or patching required. The fast cap magnetic doors leave access to the rest of the house and self close for easy hassle free access.

Now I need to get back to demo.
