I have had a chance to do two recent projects.

The first was finding a solution for a snare mechanism on a vintage Ludwig 12” snare. With some TLC and a new wood hoop this little drum turned out beautifully. I wanted to maintain the minimalism of the time

The second was installing a new shell tom mount on a vintage Premier 12” tom tom. I replaced some older slotted tuning rods(along with some simple nylon washers), put on some Remo classic fit heads and it is ready to go!

Quite a fortuitous find here!

This is an incredible Stewart 1966 drum kit in Blue Agate wrap. ( 22 / 13 / 16 and a 14 x 5.5 snare..... which is not pictured)

It is all original(except for the batter heads)
It even has the original Remo sound master resonant heads as well!

This kit could be considered new old stock..... it’s condition is stellar! I actually have not seen any vintage kit in this type of shape in all my years of immersion (Lol)

Just like the white marine Pearl.... it has stunning mahogany shells with re rings. It has such a beautiful warm tone( and a great deal of resonance... the round over edges are exquisite)

2021 has started out very well indeed!

I recently acquired a beautiful early 1960’s Stewart White Marine Pearl kit. The wrap has aged perfectly and the patina is incredible.

These early Stewart kits are vastly underrated. The early 1960’s versions have the highly prized and sought after thin vertical grain luan Mahogany shells with thin reinforcement rings. The bearing edges are a vintage round over. Usually, you can’t find specimens that don’t have damaged shells due to their extremely thin and soft nature. Most of the best early MIJ( made in Japan) drum kits have the same shell design.

They simply sound incredible! Warm, resonant and woody. Also, this particular wrap is quite rare to find in my experience with early Stewart’s.

I will be posting extra photos of the shells and the other drums as the restoration continues.

The sizes are : 22 x 14 Bass Drum / 13 x 9 Tom / 16 x 16 Floor Tom and a 14 x 5.5 snare drum.

** The 13” Tom photo is the one drum that is currently restored. The bass drum is as originally found.**
