Cowboy Country Forestry
A division of Cowboy Country Log Homes is seeking highly motivated and energetic individuals to join our team.

2024 Fall Forestry Position

Cowboy Country Forestry (CCF) is a division of Cowboy Country Log Homes, located in the beautiful Rocky Mountain Foothills of Southern Alberta. Our office is located 10km west of Diamond Valley, Alberta, only minutes from Kananaskis Country. For the past 14 years, our primary client has been Spray Lake Sawmills Ltd. (SLS) of Cochrane, Alberta. Our contracts with SLS, now West Fraser Sawmills, include block and road layout, tree planting supervision and Critical Habitat Assessments. SLS’s forest management area ranges from Sundre to Crowsnest Pass along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. CCF often accesses these areas by ATV or horseback.

We currently have openings for TWO Fall Forestry Positions.

We are seeking highly motivated Foresters to assist with our annual forestry programs. These positions will run from present until the weather permits. The selected candidates will gain hands on experience in all aspects of forestry under Alberta Forest Professionals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

PLANNING & OPERATIONS:
Harvest and Road Design Layout
Reconnaissance (wood quality & volume)
GPS Data Collection and GIS Data Entry
C-HAT – Critical Habitat Assessments

Ideal qualifications include:
• Enrolled in a Forestry related post-secondary program
• Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and Basic First Aid
• Prior forestry related experience
• Familiarity with Garmin Basecamp and MS Word/Excel
• Enjoy working outdoors and a strong willingness to learn
• Willing to work alone in remote areas
• Experience operating off-road vehicles (ATV) is an asset
• Experience horseback riding is an asset

REFINISHING, RESTORATION and MAINTENANCE of LOG HOMES

Duties include:
- Masking windows and doors
- Removal and replacement of down spouts, exterior lighting and wall hangings
- Set up and breakdown of scaffolding
- Filling blast pot with blast media
- Clean up and screening used blast media
- Chinking
- Staining (operating sprayer)
- Back Brushing for sprayer operator
SANDBLASTING AND SPRAYING/STAINING EXPERIENCE AN ASSET
- Operating Articulating Manlift

Requirements include:
- Must be willing to travel
- Valid class 5 drivers license
PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION AN ASSET
- Willing to learn new tasks
- Work well with others
- Trust worthy and a hard worker

It’s been a busy couple of weeks down at Maggie’s Diner!! Blasting, sanding, rot restoration and staining, well under way. Typical to Alberta spring weather we had a few weather delays but hope to have it wrapped up by the end of next week. Stay tuned.....

Do we have any Heartland fans out there? Pretty cool project started this week, we were chosen to refinish Maggie’s Diner! Tune in next week for the finished product.

We had a bit of an earlier start on the refinishing this year and east able to media blast a beautiful log cabin near Kelowna back in February. It’s now complete, check out the transformation!
