Hi All,

We are OPEN TODAY (Thursday) from 10 am - 5 pm. Come and see us!

The seedlings are finally starting to grow, after a cold and wet spring. They are liking this heat and sunshine (aren't we all?). I should have a few new species for sale in a few weeks. I'll update my species list when I do.

Just a note that we will be open tomorrow (Friday) and Sunday, but closed this Saturday because I coach little kids soccer and our kiddos have a tournament on Saturday and I don't want to disappoint them. ☺️ I'm normally open Saturday. Just closed June 6th for the soccer tournament. Thanks for your patience. I'm a one person business so once in a while I need to take a day for a special event. 🙂

One person’s favorite patio filler can be another’s ecological nightmare. From the colorful lantana spreading across India to the wilding pines of New Zealand and the lupines taking over Iceland’s mossy landscapes, invasive plants are a global challenge with local consequences.

In our latest blog post, HCMG Volunteer Leslee J explores how plants that seem harmless in one climate can become aggressive invaders in another—including some common sights in our own Minnesota backyards.

We are open TODAY from 10 am - 5 pm (and also Saturday and Sunday, 10-5).

We have a few new species in stock now including our native SUNDIAL LUPIN, in addition to many of the species that we available last year. Seedlings are slow this year so we currently have about 8 lupins in stock, with more to come.

Other species we will have available soon include: Virginia Bluebells, Prairie Smoke, Harebells, Bluestem Goldenrod, Prairie Sage, Hoary Vervain, Poke Milkweed, New Jersey Tea, Dwarf Blue Indigo, and more!

See our current species list, pinned to our feed here on Facebook.

We have 3 pots sizes available at $6, $8, and $12 (the $12 plants are 3 years old; smaller pot sizes 1-2 years old and this years crop).

See you there!!😊

Come to MERA’s Garden Day May 23rd at MERA Schoolhouse from 10 am to 3:30 pm.

This year we have a special treat for you — a one-woman show The Gardener and the Golfer by Dale Hamilton.

Start the morning at 10 am with a great cup of coffee at MERA Café and then get organized for the plant sale and exchange beginning at 11 am.

You can enjoy a $10 lunch including coffee, tea or drink and dessert from 11:30 am to 1 pm.

The afternoon features presentations and talks from several seasoned gardeners geared to all levels of gardening. Speakers start at noon, followed by a panel discussion—share your gardening stories. Learn and share the many tricks and tips to help your garden thrive.

Here’s the afternoon schedule:

12:00 Mushroom cultivation on logs: Karen Akua Hinds – a member of the Ecological Farmers Assoc of Ontario (EFAO) and local resident of McDonald’s Corners

12:30 Promoting ecological restoration through native plant gardening: Shelley Ball, Biosphere Native Plants

1:00 Muck (the typical soil in our area) soil management: Bob Whitmore, Whitsend Market Garden

1:30 Notes on Ray Griggs’ EcoTrilogy—Ecologos, Ecocide and Ecopathy: Timothy Booth, Woodworker, musician and gardener

The Gardener and the Golfer

At 2:30 enjoy The Gardener and the Golfer, a one-woman show by Dale Hamilton. The running time is 45 minutes with discussion afterwards.
Admission is by donation, before or after the show.

Here’s a synopsis:

In this sharp, funny, and heartfelt one-woman show, next-door neighbours Mary and Bill couldn’t be more different. She’s a regenerative farmer with dirt under her nails; he’s a hedge fund manager who’d rather be on the golf course than in a debate over land use. As tensions rise, their neighbourly friction turns into a full-on feud over land use and climate change. Will they find common ground, or remain stuck on opposite sides of the fence?

We are ready for opening day on Saturday, May 16th, from 10 am - 5 pm. Can't wait!!

Despite the cool, wet spring, our plants are doing great! Growing quickly.

Our prices have shifted a tiny bit (down 😃) this year. Small (0.8 L) pots are $8, 1 gallon pots (2-3 year old plants) are $12, 2 gallon pots (only a few as these are large 3 year old plants) are $20.
