Sundays with Spearhead: What Is Alligatoring?

Ever seen cracked, scaly paint that looks like reptile skin? That’s alligatoring — a clear sign that older paint layers have hardened, lost flexibility, or weren’t properly applied.

It’s especially common on sun-exposed sides of the home, like southern exposures, where heat and UV wear things down fast.

* It’s one of the clearest signs your home is overdue for fresh paint — and sometimes, it’s almost too late for just that. If the damage goes deeper, restoration may be needed to protect the surface underneath.

This full exterior repaint came together with a warm two-tone palette: 'Shiitake' and 'Iron Ore' from the WoodScapes Solid Stain system — applied across all surfaces for a smooth, unified finish.

Full Exterior Revival - The Prep Behind the Results

This one needed the works: siding, fascia, trim, gutters, and downspouts — with extensive prep on the south-facing walls that hadn’t seen paint in over a decade.

From sanding and scraping to masking and spraying, every detail was handled with care to ensure long-term performance and a clean, durable finish.

Craftsmanship matters — especially when the surface is this weathered, and we'll treat your property like our own.
