A Nevada home built for extreme conditions 🏠

Built in the Summerlin area with sweeping views of the Las Vegas Strip and Red Rock Canyon, the home by Faulkner Architect was designed to blend with the desert. Instead of rising above the landscape, the place is carved into it, creating shaded courtyards, underground living spaces, and a calm retreat protected from extreme heat, wind, and heavy rain.

Locally sourced concrete gives the house its sandy tone, while perforated weathering steel references the iron-rich geology of the valley. More than half of the home sits below ground level, naturally cooling the interiors and creating dramatic light effects through openings beneath the reflective water basin. On top of that, the home is powered by modern sustainable technology, including a 45 KW solar array, reflective roofing, and high-efficiency systems throughout.

The definition of a weekend home is changing. As digital connectivity allows us to work from anywhere, the sharp divide between the city and the countryside is fading. In Santiago, Mexico, the studio Práctica Arquitectura has responded to this shift with “El Aguacate,” a project that rethinks the vacation house. Instead of excess, the design commits to the environmental, social, and economic basics. It proves that a smart approach can say a lot with very little, focusing only on what is necessary for living.

Práctica Arquitectura has created a residence that challenges the typical idea of a weekend getaway.

The Rowe challenges everything people expect from footwear 👞

Designed by Charles Johnson of Driven By Charles for World Shoe, The Rowe recently received the “Fashion Design of the Year” award at Africa International Design Awards (AIDA), earning additional recognition in footwear and sustainable fashion categories. What began as a practical response to the needs of healthcare workers during the pandemic has evolved into an award-winning piece of footwear design.

The moulded shoe combines the comfort and simplicity of a clog with a more sophisticated, structured silhouette. Inspired by Japanese design culture and the futuristic forms of the Nissan Hyper Force concept car, The Rowe has clean surfaces, precise detailing, and a distinctive profile that pushes the boundaries of the familiar design. Beyond its appearance, sustainability is at the heart of the design. Manufactured in Ghana using compression-moulded EcoPure® EVA foam, the shoe is lightweight, durable, and designed with biodegradability in mind. The material also incorporates antimicrobial technology derived from recycled oyster shells, demonstrating how innovative material solutions can support performance as well as environmental responsibility.

Echo is a stool designed by Olga Petrova-Podolskaya, from Petrova.Studio, after a life of observing how Russian society views form and its meaning. It was born from an interest in older Russian everyday objects, where form wasn’t treated as decoration but as something tied to use and meaning. For the designer, the goal wasn’t to copy historical things, but to rethink familiar forms in a modern way, without turning them into stylisation.

The most luxurious electric Rolls-Royce yet 🚙

Rolls-Royce has revealed Project Nightingale - a breathtaking all-electric convertible inspired by Art Deco elegance, birdsong, and the spirit of the 1920s. As a part of the exclusive Coachbuild Collection, the two-seat luxury vehicle takes cues from the legendary EX16 and EX17 experimental models, blending glamour with futuristic electric performance.

Measuring the same length as a Phantom, Project Nightingale features stainless steel detailing, sculpted bodywork, and the largest wheels ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce. The design is filled with references to movement and fluidity - from yacht-inspired lines and propeller-like wheel patterns to body surfaces that appear to flow around the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy emblem, every detail has been carefully crafted to create a sense of elegance in motion. Inside, the “Starlight Breeze” interior features 10,500 illuminated stars woven throughout the leather-lined space.

This light installation turns glass into flowing fabric 💡

Designer George Singer has transformed 20,000 hand-painted glass spheres into an ethereal suspended sculpture called Lua, named after the Vietnamese word for silk. Created for a private home in Haiphong, Vietnam, the installation captures flowing folds of fabric frozen in mid-air. To achieve the effect, the designer collaborated with digital artists from Onformative, using advanced simulations to study how silk behaves in motion.

Every single glass orb was then individually positioned and painted in delicate amber and frosted white tones, creating a breathtaking wave of light and texture. Fibre optic lighting and overhead spotlights allow the installation to shift moods throughout the day, from calm and intimate to vibrant and dramatic, all controlled through an iPad.
