Insulated spacer bar upgraded, save 15% heating bills
A spacer bar, sometimes known as a profile, is the continuous hollow frame which separates the two glass panes. The spacer bar is bonded to the glass panes via a primary and secondary seal, creating an airtight cavity which is filled with air or gas.
Traditionally spacer bars were aluminium, which we used before, it's highlyconductive to heat allowing it pass through the window.
Warm Edge spacer bars insulate the edges of a sealed unit and keep the panes of glass apart.Warm edge spacers reduce the amount of heat lost through the sealed unit. Warm Edge spacer bars are made of UPVC and stainless steel that becomes a barrier to heat loss. They keep the edge of the sealed unit warm, as a result less heat is lost through the windows and heating bills are lower.
How do you calculate how much money your warm edge spacer will save from the U-value?
Let’s suppose the factors as follow,
Area of windows and doors: 20 square meters
Temperature difference in summer: 10DegC
Temperature difference in winter: 25DegC
Time of cooling or heating: 12 hours
Summer or winter last: 120 days
Coolig or heating cost: USD0.15/kWh
Lifetime of aluminum windows and doors: 30 years
To calculate how much money you will save on heating lost through the warm edge spacer you follow the steps below.
1. Work out the difference between the two spacers U-value 0.2W/㎡K
2. Multiply that number by the window area (0.2 x 20 = 4)
3. Work out temperature difference inside and outside your home (10DegC/25DegC)
4. Multiply the temperature difference by the U-value area (4 x 10 = 40, 4 x 25 = 100)
5. Divide that number by 1000 to convert it into kilowatts per hour (40 / 1000 = 0.04kWh, 100 /1000 = 0.1 kWh)
6. Multiply that by 12hoursx120days to get your annual kWh (0.04 x 12 x 120 = 57.6kWh,0.1 x 12 x 120 = 144kWh )
7. Multiply that figure by the cost of a kWh of gas ((57.6 + 144) x 0.15 =USD30.24)
8.Multiply that figure by lifetime of aluminum windows and doors(30.24 x 30 = USD907.2)
Divide this number by the area of aluminum windows and doors (907.2 / 20 = USD45.36/㎡). It means you will save USD45.36 per square meter if you buy our windows and doors with upgraded insulated spacer bars.
