imondi Flooring

imondi Flooring Award-winning, eco-friendly, innovative reclaimed wood flooring;
www.imondi.com imondi was founded over a decade ago. It was a great year. Now we are 103 people.

The year was 1999, around that same time Backstreet Boys released their single ‘I want it that way’. Since then we’ve outgrown 5 offices and 2 factories and now operate a 10,000m2 manufacturing facility that is bursting at the seams with creative woodworkers and makers that have been vital in successfully growing imondi into an award-winning flooring company in China. We are proud to have faithful

ly pursued our vision: to nurture a collaborative and people-focused culture because we believe that is what fuels innovation. The youngest is 23 years old. The oldest is 65. One of us has swam with pink dolphins. Whilst we are a diverse group of individuals we take our craft seriously by combining all our creative backgrounds and passion for wood to produce original and innovative floors. Inspired by our Founder ‘s infectious enthusiasm for wood, we at imondi are obsessed. The list of useful implements that can be crafted from wood is infinite and amazing. We welcome you to avail yourselves of the gorgeous wood we have humbly attempted to shape into beautiful floors. We focus on handcrafted and sustainable slab rescue – working with wood rescued from old boats and barns to the wooden poles in the Venetian canals. We endeavour to make one-of-a-kind floors that highlight the materials from which they are derived. With several design awards acquired during our time, imondi has grown to be one of China’s leading flooring manufacturers with offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and The Netherlands. Together with our industry partners, we continue to work towards a better world through design and with our powers combined we will be able to create bigger and better things.

Hunter Gatherer: The Fresh Look of Healthy Living In China

Harn Sun knows all too well the challenges that go into educating consumers about healthy and sustainable living in China.
Having been inspired by the farm fresh scene in the US, Harn and her brother Anmao moved to Shanghai to start Hunter Gatherer, the eco-friendly grocery-and-restaurant that has been making waves on the city's 'green scene' since it first opened in 2014.

The Hunter Gatherer venues serve up delicious and organic selections of quick-service food, as well as all natural groceries and chemical pesticide free products. Thanks to Harn and Anmao, who play significant roles in the city's clean living movement, food which is transparent about its origin is no longer hard to come by in Shanghai.

Harn was keen to reflect the message of the brand - one which champions all things natural - in the interior of the venues, using imondi's salvaged products to reflect the farm-to-table fresh mantra in asubtle and modern way.

imondi's wood products add an element of texture against the backdrop of smooth, white walls, something that was important to Harn in the design of each venue. She tells imondi, "Hunter Gatherer is designed to feel comfortable and homey, therefore it was important to use lots of materials and textures."

This year, whole foods fans can look forward to two new Hunter Gatherer locations in Shanghai.

WEIJENBERG Weaves Sculpted Timber Element Around RAW Restaurant

Merging gastronomy with design has led to the creation of RAW restaurant located in Taiwan's capital city. The interior collaboration is a project between Singapore-based studio WEIJENBERG and the restaurant owner and chef- André Chiang. Reflecting the menu, the interiors mimic how chef André's food can be experienced. Accentuated by the sculptural timber structure which softly weaves and curves itself through the space, it integrates as seating, surfaces, the bar counter and a decorative element; creating a journey and subtle transition from the bustling city streets into the distinctive establishment.

In total, the organic timber structure is approximately 65m long-handcrafted by carpenters and assembled piece by piece. With this prominent feature acting as a visual and functional focal point, the rest of the décor has been left modest and simple, enabling the focus to be between the customer and the food – whilst eating, the lighting highlights the dish being served, emphasizing the intimate atmosphere the chef and designer wanted to evoke.

Designer at WEIJENBERG comments: 'For us, it was important not to have distinct partitions as we felt this 'boxy' approach would be restrictive for a highly creative chef. We made raw intentionally interior borderless, yet we still needed to intertwine restaurant operations and functionality with design. This created a complex challenge as we had articulated a geometry that needed to have a strong practical element to it. Most of the sculpture is purposeful with storage, a wine island and a large counter by the entrance without compromising the beauty of the design.'

Designers are Utterly Floored at imondi Lecture

Last month imondi invited a group of Shanghai's most prominent interior designers to hear how wood flooring can be used in their work.

The event was held at one of the city's Naked hub co-working spaces, who happen to be one of imondi's esteemed clients, meaning that those in attendance were able to see first-hand the effect of using imondi products.

Led by Lisa, imondi's co-founder, the talk provided designers more information on imondi as a brand, their different products and guidance on how to install wood flooring correctly, as well as interesting facts about the history of different wood types and useful tips on their maintenance.

Not only were audience members astounded by the versatility of wood, with its wide range of colour and fitting options, they were also impressed by imondi’s commitment to sourcing high quality wood, as well as their dedication to developing durable products.

Explaining that it is not just different types of wood that contribute to different looks, but different parts of each tree as well, imondi inspired a whole new approach to use wood products. We can't wait to see this put into practice by the talented audience members!
