Tamarindobotanicalgarden

Tamarindobotanicalgarden We have started planting a wide variety of tropical fruit trees on a small property outside of Tamarindo that we hope to open to the public in a few years.

After an eight year wait our Akee tree is finally producing fruit!
Ackee (Blighia sapida) is a fruit native to West Africa that's a staple in Caribbean cuisine. It's Jamaica's national fruit and a key ingredient in the national dish, ackee and saltfish.

This is a recent find in the garden. Turk's Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus). Funny thing is we thought it was just a w**d over the years and often cut it, but it apparently survived. I noticed the flowers a month or two ago, and then one of the fruits one day and decided to taste it. Quite a surprise, the fruit looks like a little apple and tastes a bit like one, too. But it is tiny, about a half inch across!

The cost of the workshop is $20/person including beverages and your first dragonfruit plant! We can only accept a total of 12 guests! We are just outside of Tamarindo on Google maps as "Reina's Chocolate". You may also want to take a look at our new web site: www.Tamarindobotanicalgarden.com

Today was special. After 4+ years we have produced our first jackfruit(Artocarpus heterophyllus), from a seedling we planted over 3 years ago! It is timely because in the next month we will open the botanical gardens to the public for the first time! Tamarindo Botanical Garden www.tamarindobotanicalgarden.com
