Today is the international day of biodiversity! 😊🌱💚
The bad news is, that it is in a very bad condition. 😩
Climate change, land use, industrial food production, and wildlife trade are the biggest drivers of biodiversity loss.
Our global food system is dominated by giant corporations, whose size allows them to lobby governments to change the way we eat and the way our food is grown. Monocultures are the result and eventually biodiversity loss but also diseases and weakened ecosystems. 😡
One way to escape this misery is permaculture, developed by Bill Mollison in the 1970s.
The ethics of permaculture can be summarized as earth care, people care and fair share. The goal is to produce healthy, inexpensive food while not damaging ecosystems.
Because of these interconnections and the holistic approach permaculture offers a "community planning philosophy" aimed at restoring ecosystems and improving the lives of communities. Together we can change the world, let's be permaculturists! 💪💚🌱
