// Viherpäivillä palkittiin opiskelijoiden ideakilpailun voittaja

👏 Meiltä Locilta Essi Salmi ja FCG:ltä Eevi Kesälä kävivät pokkaamassa pääpalkinnon ideakilpailusta Viherpäivillä. 🌿

Kilpailussa maisema-arkkitehtuurin opiskelijat haastettiin suunnittelemaan Liedon keskustaan kaikille avoin, elävä ja monikäyttöinen kaupunkipuisto. Ideakilpailun järjesti Viherpäivien pääyhteistyökumppani Lappset. Työ voitti samalla myös varjoraadin palkinnon. Onnittelut voittajille! 💫

Tuomaristo kehui, että suunnitelman puisto on kuin lietolaisten olohuone. Vahvuuksina nähtiin muun muassa ympärivuotiset käyttömahdollisuudet, ympäröivän alueen kulttuurillinen huomioiminen ja olemassa olevien puitteiden hyödyntäminen kestävästi.

Vuotuiset Viherympäristöliiton Viherpäivät järjestetään tänä vuonna Jyväskylässä 11.–12.2.2026 yhteistyössä Talvitiepäivien kanssa. Vuodesta 1980 lähtien järjestetty Viherpäivät -tapahtuma kokoaa yhteen noin 1700 viheralan ammattilaista.

//The winner of the student idea competition was awarded at the Green Days

👏 Our Essi Salmi and FCG’s Eevi Kesälä went to claim the grand prize of the idea competition at the Green Days. 🌿

In the competition, landscape architecture students were challenged to design a public, lively, and multifunctional urban park in the center of Lieto. The idea competition was organized by Lappset, the main partner of the Green Days. The work also received the Shadow Jury Award. Congratulations to the winners! 💫

The jury praised the design, saying the park feels like the living room of Lieto residents. Its strengths include year-round usability, cultural consideration of the surrounding area, and sustainable use of existing structures.

The annual Green Days organized by the Finnish Association of Landscape Industries will be held this year in Jyväskylä on 11–12 February 2026, in collaboration with the Winter Road Days. Since its inception in 1980, the Green Days event has brought together around 1,700 professionals in the green industry.

//Kestävää suunnittelua pienille kunnille//

🏘️Olemme mukana Landscape in Focus -hankkeessa, joka keskittyy pienten kuntien ja kylien kestävään suunnitteluun ja kehittämiseen. Euroopan unionin hankkeen tavoitteena on tukea maisema-arkkitehtuuria ja kaupunkisuunnittelua, jossa kunnioitetaan paikallisen ympäristön ja historian ominaispiirteitä sekä otetaan asukkaat aktiivisesti mukaan.

Maiseman suunnitteluun liittyy tällä hetkellä monia haasteita, kuten ilmastonmuutos, luonnon monimuotoisuuden heikkeneminen, eroosio ja vesikiertojen häiriintyminen. Näihin kysymyksiin tarttuminen ei ole helppoa – ja juuri tässä LIF-T-hanke haluaa olla avuksi.

Locin Pia Kuusiniemi on mukana hankkeen ohjausryhmässä Suomen Maisema-arkkitehtiliitto MARKin edustajana.

LANDSCAPE IN FOCUS on kahden vuoden (2024–2026) projekti, jota Euroopan unioni rahoittaa Erasmus+-ohjelman kautta ja jota toteutetaan yhdessä kansainvälisten kumppaneiden BDLA:n (Saksa), MARKin (Suomi), SPU Nitran (Slovakia) ja tšekkiläisen kumppanin IEPSin kanssa.

//Sustainable planning for small municipalities//

🏘️We are participating in the Landscape in Focus project, which focuses on sustainable planning and development for small municipalities and villages. The aim of the European Union’s project is to support landscape architecture and urban planning that respect the characteristics of the local environment and history and actively involve residents.

There are currently many challenges related to landscape planning, such as climate change, the loss of biodiversity, erosion, and disrupted water cycles. Addressing these issues is not easy – and this is exactly where the LIF-T project aims to provide support.

Pia Kuusiniemi from Loci is a member of the project’s steering group, representing the Finnish Association of Landscape Architects (MARK).

LANDSCAPE IN FOCUS is a two-year (2024–2026) project funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme and implemented with foreign partners BDLA (Germany), MARK (Finland), SPU Nitra (Slovakia) and Czech partner IEPS.

//Arkkitehtuurin ja muotoilun päivät//

💚Valtakunnallisia Arkkitehtuurin ja muotoilun päiviä 2026 vietetään 2.–8. helmikuuta teemalla "Yhdessä". ArkMuoto tarjoaa alustan rakennetun ja muotoillun ympäristön toimijoille tuoda esiin erilaisia näkökulmia arkkitehtuuriin, muotoiluun ja yhdessä luomiseen.

Kuudetta kertaa järjestettävä arkkitehtuurin ja muotoilun valtakunnallinen festivaali juhlistaa yhteistyötä ja yhdessä tekemisen voimaa.

Kolmas helmikuuta on liputuspäivä Alvar ja Aino Aallon sekä suomalaisen arkkitehtuurin ja muotoilun kunniaksi.

The national Architecture and Design Days 2026 will be celebrated from 2–8 February under the theme “Together”. ArkMuoto provides a platform for professionals in the built and designed environment to share diverse perspectives on architecture, design, and collaborative creation.

Now in its sixth year, the nationwide festival of architecture and design celebrates cooperation and the power of creating together.

3 February is a flag day in honor of Alvar and Aino Aalto as well as Finnish architecture and design. 💚

//Kukkaloistoa ihmisille ja pölyttäjille

Kukat jaksoivat kukkia keskellä kaupunkia vielä marraskuun lopussa! Kukkaloistoa ihmisille ja pölyttäjille on yksi vuoden 2024 kaupunkilaisten ehdottamista ja äänestämistä OmaStadi -hankkeista. Hanke valmistui nyt, ja kävimme katsomassa, miltä Merisatamanrannassa näyttää talven kynnyksellä. Istutuksiin on valittu monipuolisesti eri aikoihin kukkivia kasveja niin ihmisten kuin pörriäistenkin iloksi. Istutuksia ei leikata syksyllä alas, sillä tuleentuneet kasvit tarjoavat lepopaikkoja ja talvisuojaa monille eliöille ja kypsyneet siemenet ravintoa linnuille. Kasvien lomaan on tuotu myös lahopuuta ja luonnonkiviä muun muassa tuomaan suojapaikkoja hyönteisille.

//Flower Power for People and Pollinators

The flowers were still blooming in the middle of the city even at the end of November! Flower Power for People and Pollinators is one of the 2024 OmaStadi projects proposed and voted on by local residents. The project is now complete, and we went to see how Merisatamanranta looks at the onset of winter. A diverse selection of plants that bloom at different times has been chosen for the plantings, to delight both people and pollinators. The plantings are not cut down in the autumn, as mature plants provide resting places and winter shelter for many organisms. Deadwood and natural stones have also been added among the plants to create shelter for insects, and their ripened seeds offer food for birds.

🌿🌳LAK – Landscape Architecture Korea esittelee marraskuun numerossaan Hatsinanpuiston:

”Suunnittelussa korostettiin luonnon ja kaupungin kontrastia sekä pyrittiin hälventämään puiston ja kaupunkirakenteen välistä rajaa. Tämän ansiosta alueesta, joka aiemmin oli vain ”välitila”, muodostui miellyttävä puisto, jossa luonto ja kaupunki kohtaavat. Lisäksi puisto on luonut positiivisia mahdollisuuksia paikallisten asukkaiden virkistys- ja vapaa-ajan toiminnalle.

Virtaava vesi on suunnittelun keskeinen elementti. Vedenkorkeuden vaihteluiden huomioiminen vahvistaa luonnon dynaamista kiertokulkua. Monikonpurosta onkin muodostunut alueen houkutteleva nähtävyys ja ekologinen käytävä, joka lisää vedenalaisen elämän monimuotoisuutta ja suojaa taimenpopulaatiota. Joen vartta kulkevat kävelyreitit, polut ja sillat tarjoavat mahdollisuuden kokea puisto eri näkökulmista vuodenajan ja vedenkorkeuden mukaan.”🐟

"The design emphasizes the contrast between nature and the city, aiming to blur the boundary between the park and the urban fabric. As a result, the area, previously just a 'transitional space,' has been transformed into a pleasant park where nature and the city meet. Additionally, the park has created positive opportunities for local residents’ recreation and leisure activities.

Flowing water is a central element of the design. Considering the fluctuations in water levels reinforces the dynamic cycles of nature. Monikonpuro has become an attractive local landmark and an ecological corridor that enhances aquatic biodiversity and protects the trout population. Walking paths, trails, and bridges along the river allow visitors to experience the park from different perspectives depending on the season and water level."🐟

Pimeän aika korostaa valon merkitystä ympäristössämme. Hämärä antaa sille näyttämön.

Maisema-arkkitehtuurissa valaistus on yksi suunnittelun työkalu – se johdattaa, tuo turvaa ja luo tunnelmaa. Pyrimme huomioimaan hämärän asukit, kuten yöhyönteiset, ja käyttämään valoa vain siellä, missä sitä tarvitaan.

Useissa kohteissamme on leikitelty valotaiteen keinoin, ja teemme tiivistä yhteistyötä valaistussuunnittelijoiden kanssa. Esimerkiksi Espoon Tynnyripuistossa hauskat valoefektit ammentavat teemansa puiston historiasta. Ne muodostavat kalaparven, joka liikkuu leikkipuiston maanpinnassa – kuin vedenalainen maailma nousisi iltaan. Turun kauppatorin valoteokset tarjoavat elämyksellisyyttä ja pysäyttävät keskellä kaupungin vilinää.

The darkness highlights the significance of light in our environment, and twilight sets the stage for it. In landscape architecture, lighting is one of the design tools – it guides, provides a sense of safety, and creates atmosphere.

We aim to consider the residents of the night, such as nocturnal insects, and to use light only where it is needed.

In many of our projects, we have experimented with light as an artistic medium and collaborate closely with lighting designers. For example, in Tynnyripuisto Park in Espoo, playful light effects draw inspiration from the park’s history. They form a school of fish moving across the playground’s surface – as if an underwater world rises into the evening. The light installations at Turku Market Square offer immersive experiences and create moments of pause amidst the bustling city.

✨ Tänään juhlistetaan Maisema-arkkitehtuurin vuosikirjan julkaisua. Suomen maisema-arkkitehtiliiton kokoama FinLandScapes 2024–2025 tarjoaa läpileikkauksen suomalaisesta nykymaisema-arkkitehtuurista. Lähes neljänkymmenen projektin parissa päästään matkalle kaupunki- ja luonnonympäristöjen suunnittelun ytimeen ja tarkastellaan teemoja, jotka muovaavat alan tulevaisuutta – liikettä, tilaa, leikkiä, luontoa ja aikaa.

Locin projekteista vuosikirjassa ovat mukana Viinikanlahden rantapuisto, Hatsinanpuisto ja Tikkurilan jokirannan puistot.🍃

Compiled by the Finnish Association of Landscape Architects (MARK), FinLandScapes 2024–2025 offers an overview of contemporary Finnish landscape architecture. Through nearly forty projects, readers are invited on a journey into the heart of urban and natural environment design, exploring the themes that shape the future of the field – movement, space, play, nature, and time.

The projects featured from Loci in the yearbook are Viinikanlahti waterfront park, Hatsinanpuisto and the riverbank parks of Tikkurila.🍃

Tänään 20. lokakuuta juhlimme kansainvälistä maisemapäivää. Euroopan neuvoston maisemasopimus avattiin allekirjoitettavaksi vuonna 2020. Sopimus korostaa niin ihmisen rakentaman kuin luonnollisen maiseman merkitystä kaikkien lajien hyvinvoinnille, ja sen tavoitteena on kannustaa monimuotoisten maisemien suunnitteluun, suojelemiseen ja hoitamiseen koko Euroopassa.

Today, on 20 October, we celebrate the International Landscape Day. The Council of Europe’s Landscape Convention was opened for signature in 2000. The Convention highlights the importance of both human-made and natural landscapes for the well-being of all species, and its aim is to encourage the planning, protection and management of diverse landscapes across Europe.

Tänään, kansainvälisenä tyttöjen päivänä, juhlimme tyttöjen oikeuksia ja mahdollisuuksia. 👧💜 Luodaan yhdessä kaikille lapsille turvallisia, inspiroivia ja tasa-arvoisia edellytyksiä oppimiseen.

Suunnittelemme oppimisympäristöjä, jotka tukevat luovuutta, rohkeutta ja yhteisöllisyyttä. Koulujen ja päiväkotien piha-alueissa yhdistyvät värikkyys, toiminnallisuus ja mahdollisuus luonnonilmiöiden opetukseen.

HEI Schools päiväkodin pihan suunnitteluun on tuotu kestävää kasvillisuutta ja hedelmäpuita. Aurinkokiven koululla yhdistyvät metsäinen ympäristö ja värikäs leikistä ja taiteesta ammentava pihasuunnittelu. Nämä pihat inspiroivat ulkona liikkumista ja luontokasvatusta sekä herättävät lasten mielikuvitusta ja oppimisen iloa.🌳📚🎨

Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate girls’ rights and opportunities. 👧💜 Together, let's create safe, inspiring, and equal conditions for learning for all children.

We design learning environments that support creativity, courage, and a sense of community. School and daycare yards combine vibrant colors, functional play, and opportunities to learn about natural phenomena.

At HEI Schools daycare, the yard design includes sustainable greenery and fruit trees. At Aurinkokivi School, the playground blends a forested environment with colorful design inspired by play and art. These yards encourage outdoor activity and nature education while sparking children’s imagination and joy of learning. 🌳📚🎨

💚Tänään on maailman mielenterveyspäivä, ja haluamme osaltamme tukea mielen hyvinvointia. Jo 20–30 minuuttia luonnon helmassa voi vähentää stressitasoja merkittävästi. Tutkimusten mukaan erityisesti ulkona liikkumisella on mielenterveyttä suojaava vaikutus. Siksi viheralueet ovat tärkeä osa kaupunkiympäristöjen ja liikuntapaikkojen suunnittelua. 💚

Pyrimme suunnittelemaan luonnon ehdoilla ja tekemään vihreistä virkistysalueista myös kaikille saavutettavia. Esimerkiksi Tikkurilan jokirannassa luontoa on haluttu vaalia keskellä urbaania maisemaa.

Kruunuvuorenrannan liikuntapuistossa on säilytetty alueen alkuperäistä puustoa sekä huomioitu sen omaleimainen tilarakenne ja maastonmuodot.🌱

💚Today is World Mental Health Day, and we want to do our part in supporting mental wellbeing. Spending just 20–30 minutes in nature can significantly reduce stress levels, and studies show that outdoor physical activity has a protective effect on mental health. That’s why green spaces are such an important part of designing urban environments and recreational areas.💚

At Loci, we aim to design in harmony with nature and make green recreational environments accessible to everyone. In Tikkurila’s Jokiranta, efforts have been made to preserve as much of the natural environment as possible amidst the urban landscape.

At Kruunuvuorenranta Sports Park, some of the area’s original woodland has been preserved, with careful attention to its distinctive spatial character and natural terrain. 🌱
