Introducing Australian Limes to Fiji’s Citrus Industry

We are excited to share our ongoing efforts to introduce a premium variety of Australian lime to Fiji. A few years ago, we sourced Australian limes from New World Supermarket and planted their seeds. Today, we have healthy seedlings thriving in our care, showing great potential for local adaptation.

These are no ordinary limes—often referred to as finger limes, they are prized in gourmet kitchens for their caviar-like flesh, which resembles tiny pearls or fish eggs. Their unique appearance, refreshing burst of citrus flavor, and high demand in upscale restaurants make them a valuable addition to any citrus portfolio.

Our next steps involve strategic grafting to speed up maturity and improve fruit quality, as well as targeted marketing to introduce this premium citrus to niche markets in Fiji. With time and care, we aim to commercialize this crop and make it available both locally and for export.

We believe this innovation could not only diversify Fiji’s agricultural offerings but also open up exciting new opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.
