Our clay/Alfisols discs are inoculated with Leptodon smithii spores and mother plant which, once wet, will grow after 3 weeks into moss that then connects together into a carpet and spread from there. The benefit of growing from spores is 1- they grow and thrive in the environment, if terrarium or moss garden, or water feature 2- the clay/Alfisols discs can be molded into any shape once wet and will stick to any surface. You can also divide the discs as they are inoculated with thousands of spores. To give the spores the correct substrate 3 discs are equal to 30x30cm of the substrate, you simply mix the clay disc into the substrate and spread it into a 30x30cm carpet.

You will be receiving Leptodon smithii Moss in a package bag in a padded envelope large pieces of moss and a few small ones. Asplenium trichomanes fern, with Phytosanitary certification and Passport, grown by supplier Asplenium trichomanes, the maidenhair spleenwort, is a small fern in the spleenwort genus Asplenium.

We are a official plant nursery based in France, all our plants, and bryophytes have plant passports with our official agricultural B number 0340088V, when being sent to all EU countries, countries outside the EU will be sent with a Phyto certificate, this process will take a little longer to process the orders as the Phyto certificate can take 1 week to to receive the certification.

It is perfect for rock gardens, living walls, pot plant, rocky habitats, but also terrarium and vivarium. Being quite slow growing and staying small in size, dealing with high humidity and low humidity, partial shade to full shade, attaches nicely to moist rock, and also substrate of potting soil, Sandy soil and gravels with larger rocks as I seeks to spread its rhizome along moist cracks and crevices.

Asplenium trichomanes grows 10 to 30 cm tall forming tufts arising from a short, scaly rhizome. The scales are dark. The evergreen fronds are long and narrow, gradually tapering towards the tip. They are simply divided into small, yellow-green to dark-green, roundish pinnae. The stipe and rachis of the frond are dark all along their length. The fronds can reach 40 cm in length but are more commonly 8–20 cm. The indusia are linear to oval, straight, and attached to the upper-side of the fertile vein. There are 4 to 8 sori per pinna and each are 1 to 3.5 mm long. Diploid chromosome count is 72.

It is widespread in temperate and subarctic areas and also occurs in mountainous regions in the tropics. Its range includes most of Europe and much of Asia south to Turkey, Iran and the Himalayas with a population in Yemen. It occurs in northern, southern and parts of eastern Africa and also in eastern Indonesia, south-east Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand and Hawaii. It is found in North America and Central America and Cuba, and the northern and western regions of South America such as Chile. Even though its range is wide spread, it is often rare, and populations are widely spread out from each other based on the available of suitable habitat.

It grows in rocky habitats such as cliffs, scree slopes, walls and mine waste, the type of rock used as a substrate depending on the subspecies. It grows from sea-level up to 3000 metres in North America while in the British Isles it reaches 870 metres.

In the US state of Minnesota A. trichomanes is listed as a threatened species. It occurs on ledges and in crevices on moist, east-facing cliffs and occasionally on talus with similar conditions. The Minnesota populations are Asplenium trichomanes subsp. trichomanes.

Asplenium trichomanes is valued in cultivation for its hardiness (down to −20 °C (−4 °F)), its evergreen foliage and its ability to colonise crevices in stone walls. It prefers a fully or partially shaded aspect. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit , www.moss-wholesale.com

Check out our organic goat milk fertiliser pellets for moss!
Our pellets are made from full fat unpasteurized goat milk straight from the udder, mixed with red clay and dehydrated at 70 degrees. Our fertiliser pellets are perfect for terrariums, living walls, moss gardens exterior as interior. But of course this is an amazing fertiliser for all plants including roses, vegetables, pot plants etc.
Why is goat milk the best fertiliser for moss and other terrarium plants?
This is our secret to the beautiful moss we grow in our moss nursery, our ferns and succulents and orchids and other rock garden plants, in fact, our whole farm!
Like all plants, moss needs nitrogen, either gleaned from the soil and substrate or from water uptake. If your moss doesn’t get enough nutrients from rainfall or substrate a mild, organic fertilizer, such as one containing lactic acid from goat milk which non-protein nitrogen content is usually 5-8 % of total nitrogen. Signs your moss needs fertilization include spotty growth and poor color.

We also sell soil mixture to help balance your substrate:

+ Acidity mix
Most moss loves acidity in the substrate. This acidity mix can be mixed into your substrate and it is slow release and lasts a long time.
You can use it as fertilizer on moss that is already planted but struggling or mix it in to the substrate to give an extra kick. Great when propagating moss from the forest and growing into a carpet before using in a terrarium.

+ limestone mix
Moss that grows on rock need certain compounds which they can find in this mix. You can use it as fertilizer on moss that is already planted but struggling or mix it in to the substrate to give an extra kick. Great when propagating moss from rock and growing into a carpet before using in a terrarium.

When you buy moss for us you can also find the best substrate in the moss listing. Or just message me and I will answer any questions.

Each bag for substrate is 100g which is enough for 10x20cm carpet of moss. www.moss-wholesale.com

Cephalanthera longifolia rhizome . Cephalanthera longifolia, known by the common names narrow-leaved helleborine or sword-leaved helleborine or long-leaved helleborine, is a herbaceous perennial plant with rhizomes of the family Orchidaceae. It is native to light woodland, widespread across Europe, Asia and North Africa from Ireland and Morocco to China.

Cephalanthera longifolia reaches on average 20–60 centimetres (7.9–23.6 in) of height in typical conditions. This orchid has erect and glabrous multiple stems. The leaves are dark green, long and narrowly tapering (hence the common name of Sword-leaved Helleborine). The inflorescence is a lax, five to twenty-flowered spike with the bell-shaped flowers ascending in an oblique spiral. The flowers are white, about 1 cm (0.4 in) long, with a yellow-edged labellum and they usually open only during the warmest and brightest hours of the day. This plant can be found in bloom from April to June, depending on location and altitude. The fruit is a dry capsule and the dust-like seed is dispersed by the wind.

The flowers are pollinated by solitary burrowing bees. The flowers produce little nectar and the yellowish dust on the labellum which the insects collect is of little nutritional value. The actual pollen is contained in two pollinia which adhere to the hairs on the bee’s back.

An investigation in Estonia determined that the mycorrhizal partners of this orchid species include Thelephoraceae and Helotiales.

Sword-leaved Helleborine usually grows in damp woodland places (mainly oak and beech), forest edges and rocky slopes. These plants prefer calcareous soils and in well exposed places.

In German, Cephalanthera are referred to as Waldvöglein, meaning little birds of the wood, a reference to the winged appearance of the flowers.

One unusual characteristic of this species is that some individuals are achlorophyllous (lacking green pigment) and take all their nutrition from mycorrhizal fungi.

Choose a planting site that receives dappled to partial shade. If you live in a growing region that is very hot and dry, you will need to choose a location that receives a bit more shade than sun. Plan to plant your orchid bulbs in the spring when the threat of frost has passed in your growing region.

Dig holes with your fingers or a small trowel. The holes should be 3 to 4 inches deep and 2 to 3 inches wide. Space the holes 12 inches apart.

Place a bulb into each hole and lightly pack the soil around the bulbs. Gently tap down on the soil to ensure that no air pockets remain around the bulb. Water thoroughly and plan to water whenever the soil dries out. When the bulbs begin to sprout and grow, mist them every day or two with a water bottle.

Fertilize every two months during the growing season with a liquid plant fertilizer that is at half strength. www.moss-wholesale.com

Orchid limodorum abortivum, violet birdsnest orchid, rhizome Violet birdsnest orchid produces colorful and beautiful flowers, which are perfect as a potted plant decorating in your house. or in a partial shade spot in your garden, or open woodland of evergreen oak, pine and chestnut on alkaline soil. It can bloom well indoors as long as you provide plenty of light and water.

You will be receiving rhizomes that were divided last year after flowering they will grow for one year underground and flower the year after. You will also receive a small amount of soil containing a mycoheterotrophic fungi which is necessary for orchids to thrive.

Limodorum abortivum, also known as Violet Limodore or Violet bird's-nest orchid, is a species of myco-heterotrophic, achlorophyllous orchid and is native to mainland Europe, western Asia and the Mediterranean area.

It is a rhizomatous herbaceous plant growing to 85 cm, with an inflorescence of 10-20 violet flowers produced from April to June. The leaves are reduced to scales and, although Limodorum contains photosynthetic pigments, these are insufficient to support the nutrition of the adult plant which is believed to rely entirely on a mycoheterotrophic or parasitic relationship with fungi, primarily of the family Russulaceae. Seeds are among the largest produced by orchids and seedlings develop very slowly, remaining entirely below ground for 8–10 years before flowering.

Typical Mediterranean habitat is open woodland of evergreen oak, pine and chestnut on alkaline soil from sea level to 1,300 metres.

You can propagate violet birdsnest orchid by division or by cuttings. Propagation by division: using an violet birdsnest orchid with more stems is a better option for the division. You should do this after blooming. When dividing the plant, dig it up carefully with its roots intact, and cut the roots into several clusters from the base. Remember to use clean tools and disinfect the wounds with a fungicide. Then plant your divided clusters in containers and keep them in a cool place. While the new roots are growing, spray them with plenty of water to prevent from drying out.
Propagate by cuttings before flowering. Choose a healthy, thick stem, remove the leaves, and cut it into small 2-node pieces. Insert the bottom directly into substrate. Keep the substrate moist, and they will root and sprout in about 2-3 months. You can also propagate by cuttings by laying the entire stem on top of moist substrate, and cutting it into pieces after it roots and sprouts. Transplant those rooted cuttings into pots for further growth. A third way to propagate by cutting is possible during weather with high temperatures, when the stems develop roots, and you can cut them off and plant them. www.moss-wholesale.com
