I'm going to put my foot in it:
Why the drama over game changes? Seriously?
I've tried to understand it, and failed. Now I am not a gamer, never have and probably never will be, so I admit to being quite impervious to the potential dilemnas such changes may cause in the gaming communities.
However: these games are created and supported by businesses. A business that does not evolve its' products and overall business model is doomed to disappear. You cannot begrudge a company doing what it believes the best to continue providing its' products and services whatever domain they work in.
Now specifically to little people games. Disregarding completely those people who seem to have the gift of foresight and have decreed that X or Y edition is "the end of" whatever game involved: what is to stop any one from playing whatever version of the game they want? Yes the mother company might not support the older versions but does that make them unplayable? Of course not! If anything the change of version denotes that the previous version(s) has reached its maximum potential and is therefore as complete a game as possible: so you should have all that is necessary to stick to that edition on hand. Add to that the mass of information available on the interwebs and I'm sure that, if you wanted to, you could start playing an older version of any game if that took your fancy.
Ah but I see you coming with the argument "but the company is forsaking its customer basis, it is betraying us!". Put plainly: no it is not: like any other business it is trying to survive to continue providing, the real betrayal would be if they gave up and shut down.
So your gaming systems are accessible and the community is vast enough and diverse enough to find players. So what are you complaining about?
"But now I can't get the models I wanted!!!"... Well boo-hoo, I'm sorry but if you cannot fathom the shallow depths of proxy models and e-bay then you might want to put your brain cells to a better use than complaining in vain about soemthing you can't do anything about...
New games, and new versions of games, mean new models! Any hobbyist should be excited at the possibility of seeing new things being put at his or her disposal, even if that mean that other models might be removed from their grasp. Let's face it models are not removed from a range two months after they have been released and most of them have a shelf life of approximately ten years. So if in ten years they have not grabbed your fancy chances are they never will. So once again what are you complaining about?
So to conclude: I do feel sorry for those who feel lost because of changes, I feel sorry for those who are not sure how they are going to keep up their hobby and in what conditions in the future. But folks these are little plastic people, they are not the alpha and omega of your life. So get your priorities right: enjoy what you have accumulated and what it permits you to do, and look forward to what i to come because you have no clue what it will permit other than it will be new.
Ego habeo dixi, now return to painting your stuff :)
