Taking up a new garden and already finding treasures!

What started as a simple border's clearing job quickly spread around the garden and transformed into the discovery of some featuring beauties, well hidden beneath overgrowing w**ds .

It always feels like a treat -and honor- to work on a rockery bit.
Pulling up w**ds and grass (and potting up plants, flowers and bulbs to be replanted afterward!), freeing stones from roots and soil; before laying some w**d membranes down, framing with lines of stones and recovering everything with gravel.

Thus enhancing the garden with a long lasting w**d free feature harmonised by defined pockets of soil for planting up new flowers and creeping plants when the weather will be more on our side🌱

One of the major issues I see when I start working on some raised bed is that the wood is often in direct contact with the soil.
Causing problems such as warping the wood, rotting and (as time goes on) allowing the roots of the shrubs/ trees to establish into the wood itself; thus, considerably reducing the lifespan of the bed.

Lining the beds is a good way to prevent the wood from absorbing humidity and keep it dry and healthy for longer.

Nurturing a vegetable garden is a whole year round operation.

The winter period is the perfect time for working on infrastructure (fixing polycrubs, building beds/composting bays, fencing, etc.), and to tackle all those cleaning jobs we don't have time for during summer (washing pots and trays, thorough w**ding); to get everything ready to start sowing when Spring will be around the corner.

With an addition of 12 new beds to our growing space (with already half of them filled up with garlic!); we are in a good place to get back to growing our favourite delicacies next year and carry on developing our nursery!

If like us you would like to start growing your own food system -or expand/optimize your growing spaces- but you are unsure where to start or how to proceed; get in touch now and we can make the best of the cold months to advise/help get your garden ready for the new season.
