I love coming back to this garden. It never stops surprising me.

Every time I’m here, different details catch my eye, new plant combinations inspire me, and I notice something I hadn’t seen before.

One of the greatest joys is watching the garden grow and evolve. It’s constantly changing with the seasons, and owners love and care are reflected in every corner Fiona Margaret Garvie

I’m so glad to have been part of its journey and excited to see what the next chapter brings. 🌿

Have you ever noticed how your garden reflects how you feel?
I'm delighted to share that my article "Feng Shui in the Garden: A Space That Grows With You" was recently published in the Cottage Garden Society magazine.
In the article, I explore how Feng Shui can help create a garden that feels calm, balanced, and supportive—not through strict rules, but by paying attention to how a space makes you feel. Discover how Chi, Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and simple mindful changes can transform your garden into a place that grows with you.

Today, Celmisia semicordata was the star of the planting. Its bold silver foliage provides year-round architectural structure, while its elegant white daisy-like flowers add brightness and movement above the foliage. Paired with the delicate pink blooms of Saxifraga, the combination feels both natural and beautifully composed.

I love how the strong, sculptural leaves contrast with the softness of the flowers, creating a planting that is rich in texture and visual interest. The silver foliage catches the light, the white flowers lift the scheme, and the pink Saxifraga blooms weave everything together.

This is a combination that works particularly well in gravel gardens, alpine plantings, and rockeries, where every plant is chosen for both form and function. Celmisia also makes a stunning feature in a cool-toned container, bringing structure, elegance, and seasonal interest to even the smallest space.

A great reminder that successful garden design is often about balancing bold foliage with delicate flowers—and few plants do that better than Celmisia.

A hidden gem discovered during a walk in Alness 🌿💜

I was lucky enough to come across this beautiful marsh orchid growing quietly in the wild. It’s amazing how these delicate flowers can be hiding in plain sight, adding a splash of colour to the landscape. Moments like this are a reminder to slow down and appreciate the natural treasures on our doorstep.

Nature never disappoints. 🌸✨

Cornus kousa is putting on a spectacular show at the moment, and for me, it has to be one of the finest small trees for the garden. Its masses of creamy white bracts appear to float above the branches, creating an elegant display that seems to glow in the early summer light.

Reaching around 4–8 metres at maturity, it develops a beautiful layered shape and can be lightly pruned to keep it more compact if required. It thrives in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil and is happiest in full sun or partial shade.

From a garden design perspective, this is a tree that earns its place. Whether used as a specimen tree, a focal point in a border or as part of a woodland-style planting scheme, its graceful form, autumn colour and decorative fruits provide interest long after the flowers have faded.

If you could only have one flowering tree in your garden, would Cornus kousa make the list? If not, which tree is stealing the show in your garden right now?

As this year’s Chelsea Flower Show celebrated creativity and natural harmony in garden design, here’s a reminder that Japanese-style gardens can flourish anywhere — even in the far north.🌿✨

This project was designed last year, proving that with vision, patience, and thoughtful planting, even the smallest Highland space can become a peaceful retreat inspired by Japanese landscapes.

A balance of stone, texture, movement, and calm — bringing a little Chelsea-style atmosphere to the Highlands. 🎥🌱
