Hi & welcome to our Business, as a couple we have a passion for home alterations, extensions & beautifying home interiors from start to finish. Stuart has worked in the construction industry for just under 30 years, learning initially as an apprentice with G Evans where he worked in both commercial settings as well as residential settings. He spent sometime working with two other small self employ

ed builders for several years where he completed work on residential house building sites, commercial works for the Council & groundwork’s. He was then headhunted by G Evans for whom he had previously worked for as an apprentice. He became a sub contractor working solely for G Evans for over 12 years whilst also completing his own private jobs at weekends. In 2017 he made the leap to go it alone, building his profile & whilst doing so he was approached by another company Longdon Construction for whom he became a sub contractor for from early 2018 up until March 2020. During lockdown he had the much needed time to reassess his path. It was time to build his own business, he initially found work using MyBuilder, social media advertising but most importantly from word of mouth from recommendations of previous customers. His hard work of sitting for hours producing thorough quotations, visiting several potential customers homes, sharing his knowledge & contacts paid off. His workload increased & continues to do so. Although he had casual labour from a couple of retired contacts we quickly realised it was time to take someone on. Tyler came to us in June 2021 straight from leaving school. Then in September he became Stus official apprentice. Becoming employers was a daunting challenge. We sought advice, contacted friends with businesses for advice then rolled with it. Tyler is a great asset to SJM Construction, he is hard working, well mannered & trustworthy. As a consequence we made the decision that we would support him going to college once a week. He is now coming towards the end of his first year with us & his college course. He will continue with us going forwards with the course continuing after the summer for a further several months. He will then be a fully qualified bricklayer. Our plan is to take another apprentice on in the coming months with Stuart & Tyler sharing their experience in order for them too to gain their own qualifications. Eventually we hope to build the business to have a few employees. With Stuart extensive knowledge & experience in multiple backgrounds within the construction industry there isn’t many problems he can’t solve. Just know that your projects become personal to him & he will do his upmost to bring you almost perfection with his workmanship. We would be thrilled to help produce your perfect home or new space.
