It’s so rewarding to see our oak chassis taking shape. From the huge green oak beams delivered by Grantland Timber, they were crafted to perfection before being oiled and bolted together.

We particularly wanted our oak chassis to be made from English Oak, grown right here in Devon, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result!

This beauty is over one hundred years old and is an amazingly well preserved piece of history situated in a field near our home. Shepherds would have moved this from field to field during the lambing season and it provided them with accommodation that enabled them to keep a watchful eye on their flock as there was a window on each side. Traditionally constructed using whatever they could find on the farm, usually cast iron wheels from discarded machinery, corrugated tin, insulated with lambs wool and fitted with a wood burning stove to keep the shepherd warm and cosy.

Here at Weycroft Mill we have been inspired to build our own Shepherds Huts to an exceptionally high standard, using materials sourced as locally as possible. Our oak is grown here in Devon, our wheels are cast from our local foundry down the road in Bridport and our stoves are made right here in Axminster. Not only does this support our local economy but it reduces our environmental impact which is very important to us.

Follow our journey as we create beautiful Shepherds Huts, Garden Rooms, Camping Pods and Bespoke Outdoor Spaces that your family will cherish for years and years.
