When going out to look at jobs and give proposals, without fail I’ll mention that we usually don’t do any painting the first day.

Almost every time I get the same wide-eyed look.

For most jobs, day one is moving furniture, covering everything with plastic, protecting the floors, making drywall repairs, wiping down surfaces, sanding, caulking, and getting the room ready.

Then once all that’s done, the painting part actually goes pretty quick.

It’s funny because a lot of people think painting is the hard part.

Most of the real work happens before the first drop of paint ever touches the wall.
