Box hedges across Nottinghamshire are failing here’s why.
You may have noticed box hedges turning brown, patchy or completely bare. Two problems are hitting them at once: are the invasive box tree moth which can strip foliage quickly, and box blight, a fungal disease that causes browning and dieback.
Treatment is possible but often expensive and ongoing, and it rarely restores a hedge to full health. That’s why many gardeners are switching to disease‑resistant alternatives that give the same neat, evergreen look without the same risks. Good options include Ilex crenata, Euonymus ‘Microphyllus’ and Lonicera nitida.
If your box hedge is struggling and you’d like practical, long‑lasting replacement options, reply here or send me a message with your hedge length and whether it’s in sun or shade. I’ll put together a planting plan and cost estimate.
