Renovating this house has been quite the adventure! This photo was taken at the very beginning of our journey, and here we are, still chipping away, transforming this house into the home we’ve dreamed of.
We’ve had moments of sheer frustration, tears, but also plenty of laughs along the way. From chasing leaks with buckets to living under a tarpaulin roof for weeks (which felt a bit like camping!), and squeezing all four of us into one room, climbing over mattresses to get to bed, we’ve seen it all. Sitting on the floor for weeks to eat and made do with a makeshift camping kitchen for a whole year!
Renovating a home is never easy, especially when you’re doing 80 percent of the work yourselves, juggling full-time jobs, and raising kids all at the same time. It’s been a wild ride, and unless you’ve lived through it, it’s hard to truly understand the effort that has been put in.
People have told us, “It’ll be worth it,” and I’m sure it will be. I thought we’d be done in a year (who was I kidding!?) but here we are in our third year. It’s been tough mentally, but each finished room is a reward in itself. We are incredibly proud to say we’ve done this—ourselves—and we’re still going strong to make this place exactly what we want.
Every bit of sweat and hard work is making it truly ours.
