This Wednesday, two members of the GNA team, Kat Geen and Andreea-Claudia Buzuloi, visited Starbank School to deliver an architecture workshop for Years 7–10.

Students were challenged to step into the role of Trainee Architectural Assistants, working as part of a design team to respond to a creative brief: transforming a derelict warehouse in Digbeth into an artist’s studio/retreat.

Through sketches, concept plans, and early model ideas, students explored how architects think about:
• space, light and functionality
• various users and how people will interact and move
• environmental and sustainability considerations, including designing for inclusivity and wellbeing

It was fantastic to see the students’ creativity, problem-solving and enthusiasm for design throughout the session. Thank you to Starbank School for welcoming the team and giving us the opportunity to share a glimpse into the world of architecture.

Six Mile Green – Planning Approval Granted

Hybrid planning approval has now been secured for Six Mile Green, the first phase of Wolverhampton’s Green Innovation Corridor.

Rooted in a site defined by innovation, where Dr James Glaisher and Henry Coxwell once achieved a world-record hot air balloon ascent. The approved proposals will transform four brownfield sites near Wolverhampton Science Park into a hub for green advanced manufacturing, research, and enterprise.

Developed through close collaboration with City of Wolverhampton Council, University of Wolverhampton, and Turner & Townsend, the scheme will unlock underused land, strengthen links between academia and industry, and support Wolverhampton’s ambition for a sustainable, future-focused economy.

Six Mile Green represents the next step in the city’s regeneration, honouring its industrial heritage while enabling innovation, growth, and opportunity.

Working alongside the University of Nottingham, we are pleased to announce the proposed development of two new residential buildings at the Grade II Listed Cripps Hall student residence. The scheme will increase residential capacity on the University Park campus with a total of 48 en-suite bedrooms, each development features shared kitchens, dining, and social spaces, alongside supporting ancillary accommodation.

Set within the historic grounds of Cripps Hall, the design responds carefully to the existing 3-storey blocks and formal courtyards, creating a cohesive relationship between new and existing buildings. Both the architecture and interiors draw inspiration from the distinctive character and identity of Cripps Hall, ensuring a sensitive yet contemporary addition that respects the heritage setting.

Through careful siting and design, the proposal enhances the campus experience while providing modern, high-quality student living in close proximity to the existing halls.
