We had fun colour mixing today! We read the very hungry caterpillar and then painted our own. We started with only, red, blue and yellow which we learnt were called primary colour, and white, we used the colour chart to work out which colours we needed to mix new colours so we could turn our pictures into beautiful, colourful butterflies! πŸ¦‹

We then mixed up all the colours to make brown for the chrysalis.

We've also had fun with lots of singing, Duplo, playing babies and we had a visit from one of our new teachers as part of the transition to school in September!

The weather was a bit unsure today so instead of a trip out somewhere in the car we enjoyed a local walk, spotting busy bees buzzing from flower to flower, talking about how they are helping to polite them, and practicing our bzzzz noises! We also found some other little bugs on the dandelions including a 14 spotted ladybird! We then pretended to be flies stuck in a web and Kelly the spider ate us πŸ•·οΈπŸ•ΈοΈ

At home we had fun with our morning speech and language games, Simon says, books and dancing!

We've also enjoyed the coloured rice and bug tray! Using tweezers to catch the worms and scoops to fill up the pots and emptying them. With lots of talking about size learning the word volume and seeing that some cups were half the size of others!

Two of us helped to make lunch by scooping hummus into pots to have with pitta breads, cucumber, tomatoes, natural yoghurt and blueberries πŸ˜‹

Out ladybirds have started to emerge from their pupas! 🐞

Today we went for a lovely bug hunt walk, we added sticks to the bug hotel, stopped to look at the wild grass patches where we spotted little flies and butterflies, talking about all the insects and birds that leaving it longer will help, searched the wooden logs for bugs and found some woodlice!

We did get rained on but sheltered under the trees with the bug hotel and then enjoyed a sunny walk the rest of the time! We helped our younger friend practice stop and go, to start to learn how to keep safe when we are out.

We moved the chrysalis into the butterfly net and read a book about ladybird life cycles we also read The Very Hungry Caterpillar πŸ›πŸž

One of our friends brought in some pomegranate seeds which we shared at snack time! We enjoyed salmon, rice and mixed vegetables, banana and natural yoghurt for lunch πŸ˜‹

Happy June and the start of summer!

Today we had fun at toddlers and as always enjoyed our walk there and back. We looked out for bugs and found some bees on a tree and on some colourful flowers, one of us remembered that the bees collect pollen and knew they help to pollinate the flowers! We spoke about how this helps more flowers grow as well as fruits!

We were very excited to see that the caterpillars are now in their chrysalises and all the ladybirds are pupas now!

We've enjoyed playing together and this morning before toddlers we played our Speech and Language UK games. This week our 3-4 year olds are trying to guess what is being described, later in the week we will have a go at describing things ourselves! We were guessing different jobs today but we could do animals, food or places we visit. Our under 3's are practicing finding and pointing to different things in books, e.g where is the butterfly, can you find the person who is jumping/running, which object is blue etc. these activities have become a lovely part of our daily routine.

At the end of the day we built a bug hotel out of magnetic tiles, Woking out how to make it sturdy so it doesn't fall down

A very rare quiet day today, we decided to go to the play cafe - The Arlebury Cafe and had a yummy lunch and a lovely play! Lots of food options and good prices with plenty of toys to explore and soft play bits to have fun on!

We've also been working our fingers with some loom band and hama beads!

We were also very excited to see some tomatoes have started to grow on our POT GANG plants! Everything is looking good so far πŸ…

Our caterpillars have grown so quickly and some of our ladybirds have turned into pupas already!
