*Lime Pointing* This is the correct way to treat the stone work on historical buildings. The walls on this cottage had been covered over for years with layers of modern, non-breathable (plastic) based paints. The result of this amongst other things like damp was the deterioration of the slate stones along with blown and flaking paint across the entirety of the building. This wall we managed to point for the customer as the stones were still not too bad, however the rear and gable end walls which face the prevailing western wind and weather directions had become quite degraded in some areas due to the on going trapping of moisture and freeze/ thaw effect of hard cement joints over the years. So these walls we Lime rendered to give them added protection whilst allowing some flexibility and breathability to the masonry construction.
