🌿Whilst in Croyde Bay, North Devon I spotted a beautiful Bottle Brush in flower. A frost tender plant for slightly acidic soil.🌿

🌿 Plus Pennywort
flowering in a stone wall, which was quite fascinating. A little further along in a hedgerow lush ferns.🌿

Spring flowering Spiraea,
pruned to clients preferred height after flowering, next year’s flowers will be borne on shoots produced in summer.

Spiraea which bloom in late summer, do so on growth produced the same year. Cut back all growth in early spring to around 30cm from the ground.

Like wise with Phlox and Sea Holly too.🌿

Interesting facts about Joe Pye.

A tall North American native wildflower used traditionally to treat kidney stones, urinary infections, fevers, and rheumatism due to its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is highly valued for supporting pollinators like butterflies and bees.

Beautiful afternoon from last week.

Thoughts turning to pruning the Lilac straight after it has has finished flowering in late spring/early summer.

This will avoid removing next year's buds.

I will take off any dead, diseased, or congested branches to maintain/aim for a healthy framework.

Tip. Prune back to an outward-facing bud.

On arrival I walk each garden taking time to note what has changed from my last visit.

From the plants general health, growing, flowering, in need of attention whether that's pruning, feeding, splitting or even moving etc.

Plus establish if there are any specific tasks to be completed.

On this occasion the client had been shopping and placed the majoroty of the pots. 🌿🙂.

Hostas, grasses, clematis, wisteria and what I thought to be a Chinese Rhubarb.

Approximately 20 plants.

What a fabulous afternoon planting and making decisions on a few locations too.
