August might feel like summer’s peak, but in the garden, it’s a month of quiet transition. Here’s what we’re focusing on right now:
🪻 Give tired perennials a refresh – a quick trim and deadheading can give them a second wind before autumn.
🍎 Keep an eye on fruit trees – early apples and plums may be ripening. Harvest gently and compost any windfalls.
🪴 Container plants need extra care – daily watering and feeding will keep them going strong through the heat.
🌾 Let some grass go wild – now’s the time to leave patches for pollinators and seedheads for birds later on.
🧤 Take stock, not just action – it’s a great time to pause and plan. What worked this summer? What could change next year?
Gardening isn’t about chasing perfection — it’s about paying attention, adapting, and enjoying the process.
