Terracotta House wins Jury’s Award for Excellence in Heritage!

Last week at the City of Port Phillip Design and Development Awards 2026 our Terracotta House received the award for Excellence in Heritage for demonstrating innovation and excellence when restoring and reconstructing the original building materials of this period home, and contributing to a better understanding and interpretation of heritage places.

Terracotta house is a contextual reinterpretation of a family home in the heritage streetscape of Middle Park, Victoria. Revisited by us 25 years after our original renovation to the home.

Textured board-formed and smooth off-form concrete surfaces create subtle contrast, while aluminium battens mediate privacy and transparency, and add a gentle warmth to the composition.

Terracotta House

Originally renovated by us 25 years ago, we recently had the opportunity to refresh this period family home for a second time.

A 25m pool runs the length of the heritage-fronted home - an unexpected luxury in this part of the world, where compact land sizes rarely allow for such amenity.

The extension is clad in handmade wide-format terracotta tiles, creating a contemporary dialogue with the red brick frontage of the period home.
