Keynsham based project; a bit of grafting on this project, removing the old pointing and re-pointing with a resin based product by Sika (Flint). The old resin pointing had not been compacted during installation, resulting in premature delamination 😳
I can’t stress enough how important is to compact this product. Ensure that the area to be pointed is properly soaked without pooling. In addition, I would never recommend using a jet-washer to clean it.

Saltford based project; adding slats to an existing pergola to train climbing plants.

Keynsham based project; a section of the downstairs shower room floor had rotted due to water ingress from an overflowing shower tray. The original sub base consisted of 3/4 inch chipboard screwed through battens into the substrate. The void had been filled with an insulation material that acted like a sponge. I removed the rotten material, wrapped the pipes with a petroleum based tape and then applied self levelling compound. I finally laid and grouted the old tiles. I also applied an aluminium trim to the rear of the shower to help prevent the shower tray from over flowing - happy days.

When I took the old lock off, I found a folded toilet roll tube wedged behind it as packing—so much for lost craftsmanship. Even better, the tube was branded “Bronco Toilet Paper,” the same stuff that we used at school that felt more like greaseproof paper and as effective as an inflatable dartboard.

What looked like a gentle bit of sanding and a new coat of varnish, resulted in the complete removal of the original coating. Whatever the original coating was, it was not keyed to the timber and kept flaking away when it was thin enough to do so — maybe it had been sprayed on. Anyway, my hands, arms, back and neck are in bits following 10 hours of orbital-sanding.

Somerdale; Operation Flatpack. Never under estimate how long these take to build, especially an eleven draw vanity unit. The booklet on the finished unit is the 50 page instruction manual😅
