We pollarded this large, multi-stemmed Sycamore today for some lovely customers here in our friendly neighbourhood of Fishponds, Bristol - who had been worried about this tree for some time due to its size and the stress on its unions below.

The tree was once a small hedgerow tree, which had been left for 50 years or so to grow without cyclical pruning.

Whilst a fine specimen, its crown had long outgrown its position. And with recent winds and the relatively tight space the tree has grown, the client opted to retain the tree as a pollard.
Luckily, for this tree, Sycamore’s are known for their vigorous regrowth and will now be able to be kept at a reduced height for a longer period and extend its lifespan in its urban environment.

A truly epic 3 days, reducing this large row of Cypress forming an overgrown hedgerow which hadn’t been reduced in over 12 years.
38 trees, 50 feet high. Some solid graft from the team and a view to remember 🌲

P.s. the tuft sticking out of the top is from another tree over the road… we haven’t missed a bit, we promise!

Just finished up a large job for some domestic clients in Brislington. 🌲

14 Cypress climbed, felled and stumps ground out ready for a new fence next week.
10 loads of woodchip and 5 loads of timber, putting our trusty Ranger to work! 💪 🛻

Thanks for coming in with your rig for a day, and also to for coming in and making light work of the grinding with your Bandit machine.

Very happy customers and another garden left tidier than when we arrived ✅

A fun little job has been running over the last couple of weeks for here in Bristol.

We’ve teamed up with to help remove invasive species (mainly Cotoneaster) in the SSSI site of Avon Gorge as part of a 5 year restoration programme.

We have had to be very sensitive and incredibly accurate with the application of herbicides to the invasive non native species, especially with the presence of Bristol Rockcress (Arabis scabra) - a very rare flowering perennial in the Brassicaceae family.

Overall crown reduction by 2.5 metres and removal of deadwood today on this magnificent Sycamore, with the help of double Joe’s and Dylan on the ground. Also, removal of major deadwood and crown clean on the Weeping Willow.

Wednesday work out with double Joe’s on the team, thanks to & Joe D for coming in for a good day’s arb!

A large ash dismantled, and rigged out over the fence using the very conveniently situated Poplar towering overhead as my climbing anchor and rigging anchor points.
Don’t you just love it when nature gives you a big crane to work from 🤷 🏗️ 🌳

More damage rectification today…

This large Weeping Willow had one of its three co-dominant stems fail onto the property roof.

We were called in to clear the collateral and carry out the remedial works, of which we opted for a crown reduction of 2.5 metres. Whilst reducing the stress on the remaining stems - we aim to preserve the tree and allow it to stand proud for years to come, hopefully without posing a risk to the property for a long while yet.

We had the call from a client in Wiltshire that a large mature Oak had fallen into the stem of another.
We were ready and on hand to jump in and make the tree’s safe, and successfully get the failed stem to the ground.

We anchored into the tree still standing, allowing us to cut free the overhead hazards and hanging branches and get into a safe enough position to cut the stem free.

It never ceases to fascinate me, how a tree so seemingly stable, and with good vigour, can fail on a near-on still day.
Research into the world of roots and what is going on beneath the soil…there is still so much to discover.

Hats off to a great team. Getting three stable heads together to figure out the safest and most efficient plan on-sight is a satisfying way to work within our field.

It’s been Cypress week here for us! 🌲

Sometimes certain species of trees come in a wave!

Some fantastic graft from the team, with a large Leyland Cypress hedge reduced by 16 feet in Corsham first half of the week. The hedgerow had been reduced previously but had been left for many years. The client will now be assured knowing that the hedge is well kept, aside a busy A road!

And then to finish off the week, a Lawson’s Cypress removal carried out safely for some clients in East Devon.

We’ve had a busy couple of months - providing the rope safety and rigging solutions on this beautiful tree house design by 🌳 🏠

Large timber frame assemblies were lifted into this mature Beech tree, using a chain hoist on a rigging line carefully positioned in exactly the right location - with full adjustability.
Being a multi level tree house, linked by spiral staircases - we had our work cut out to ensure that safe access could be gained on every part of the build. The team have done exceptionally well at adapting to the systems demo’d in the training workshop back in March.
