My name is Charlie and I'm the owner of Charlie's Garden Services - I've landscaping and groundskeeping experience for a few years now - from a fairly young age have always been a keen horticulturalist. My life in North Cornwall takes me to outdoor spaces as often as possible, whether a dip in the sea or a stroll through ancient wooded valleys, my soul lives outdoors.

Is your garden looking a little tired after the winter rain? While it might look quiet out there, January is actually one of the most important months for a healthy, vibrant garden.

In the South West, our mild (but wet!) winters mean plants are getting ready to wake up earlier than you think. At Charlie’s Garden Services, I’m focusing on two key areas this month to get your outdoor space in top shape:

1. The Big Winter Tidy & Soil Boost 🧹
The secret to a great summer garden starts underground.

Mulching: I apply high-quality organic matter to your beds now. It suppresses weeds, protects roots from late frosts, and feeds your plants for the year ahead.

Border Tidying: I’ll clear the winter debris and cut back any dead perennials, leaving your garden looking neat and structured.

Greenhouse & Tool Prep: Let me handle the scrubbing! I clean greenhouse glass and sanitize pots to ensure a disease-free start for your spring seedlings.

2. Bare-Root Planting Season 🌳
Now is the absolute best time to add structure to your garden at a lower cost.

Fruit Trees & Roses: I can source and plant "bare-root" varieties now. They establish much stronger root systems than potted plants and are far more cost-effective.

Hedging: Thinking of adding some privacy? I can plant new hedges while the plants are dormant, ensuring they hit the ground running come March.

Let me do the heavy lifting while it’s cold so you can enjoy the blooms when it’s warm.

I wanted to take a moment to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me since the opening of my business. Your trust and support have meant the world to me, and it’s been a joy getting to know people and work on your outdoor spaces!

🗓️ Holiday Hours
As we head into the festive season, I will be taking a short break to recharge. My business will be unavailable Christmas day & Boxing Day and New Year's Day. I will be back into the full swing of things in the first week of January.

Do you have a waterlogged lawn? I know right, who doesn't!

But if yours is particularly bad (typically lots of moss or brown patches), sometimes this is simply caused by compacted soil rather than an issue with ground water levels.

Aeration can often alleviate the problem - drop me a message if you'd like some lawn love!

I've a couple of slots fortnightly slots available in my diary, perfect for bi-monthly garden tidy-ups, critical this time of year if you have lots of trees and hedges dropping their leaves everywhere.

Ask me about composting - leaf compost is some of the best for your garden, I can build a compost bin or install a compost tumbler so you can generate nutritious compost for your garden!

Don't fancy a recurring appointment? One-off tidy-ups are no problem!
