Emma Davies Garden Mentor Previously owned and ran The Walled Nursery, Gardener at Sissinghurst Castle and Great Dixter, I of

Emma gained an HND in Commercial Horticulture from Hadlow College in 2002, with over 20 years of horticultural experience under her belt. Emma and her husband Monty owned The Walled Nursery in Hawkhurst from 2010 to 2020, growing the majority of plants on site as well as delivering an array of horticultural courses. Emma started off training at the world famous Great Dixter Gardens in East Sussex

whilst studying horticulture at Hadlow, she then went on to become a gardener at Sissinghurst Castle for many years before buying The Walled Nursery. The Walled Nursery was a labour of love for Emma and her family, with one of the largest collections of Victorian Glasshouses in the UK, they certainly had their hands full. Thousands of plants were produced each season which soon became the place to go for sensible, down to earth gardening advice and garden worthy plants. Emma's strength is to truly understand a clients needs and think creatively using her wealth of experience to find a workable solution. This may be spending a day in the greenhouse teaching how to propagate, waking and talking through your garden, appraising and reevaluating or redesigning a garden that just isn't working for you. If your garden is causing you concern, get in touch, Emma's business is launching officially in Spring 2022 when a website will be launched.

As well as growing for and setting up a growing facility at a local secondary school.....this Spring I am launching

I’ve been holed up in my office plotting, planning and preparing, building a website and drawing up designs.

My ideas have been sown, germination is under way. Before you know it, I’ll need potting on!

I’m looking forward to telling you all about it.

Starting 2022 with a for the garden I’m helping to create at a local secondary school.

In this specialist unit the pupils learn by ‘doing’.

They learn in the town coat of arms and the plant names, through discussing what the translation of ‘sun and health’ could mean in the new garden.

in working out how many carrots we can fit in one straw bale for our

in understanding how is produced in our brains when our hands are in the soil.

All learnt as we work. I can’t wait to see the progress.

We took all of our Christmas decorations down today, had a good old clean up and then some tlc for our .

Remember, house plants don’t need as much throughout winter, keep an eye on them but a trickle once a fortnight should be ample.

A liquid feed and wipe the leaves clean to maximise on these shorter days will all help.

As you clean, check for . We wipe scale off with a damp tissue. If you have on the surface of your then let it dry out completely, you can try spraying with garlic water or soapy water if they persist. or may be found in nooks and crevices or underneath leaves, we use soapy water or squish with your fingers if you feel brave!

I always repot all of my house plants straight away into a good multi purpose of course! Or a house plant compost as I find the based composts most house plants tend to be sold in is not great and the plants usually thrive once that’s knocked off and repotted.

Even better, but from who do a great service for our community at the same time.

I have around fifty house plants! I don’t spend an awful lot of time on them....but I do have days, like today, when I give them a good going over.

Happy new year to everyone. Here’s a look back to a border I planted up around 8 years ago.

2021 was a year of many changes for me and my family, it’s taken time to get used to a different pace of life, we feel like we’ve found our new rhythm now.

2022 I will continue to grow for as well as carrying out some private design, consultancy and mentoring which allows me to spend one day each week working in . I’m helping to set up a self esteem boosting garden with teenagers who for various reasons are struggling to fit into ‘normal’ school life.

This is my most challenging but most rewarding work. We have different breakthroughs every week, I never know who will be enthusiastic or completely disruptive, plans can and often go completely out of the window but there are ALWAYS breakthroughs and as we keep going, suddenly a beautiful garden emerges. Something we can all be proud of.

Here’s to a healthy, happy and plant filled 2022 for us all!
