Pentyrch | Farrow & Ball Mizzle

A very different feel, without replacing the kitchen.

We began this project looking at the existing oak cabinetry, the light within the room and how the kitchen sat alongside the surrounding finishes.

The clients chose Farrow & Ball Mizzle — a soft, muted green-grey that works beautifully with the existing granite worktops and gives the cabinetry a much calmer, more considered feel.

The original oak doors, drawer fronts, frames and surrounding cabinetry were professionally prepared and spray refinished, preserving the existing joinery while giving the kitchen an entirely new direction.

For us, this is what kitchen refinement is about: understanding what is already worth keeping, then making careful decisions around colour, finish and detail.

We’re now booking cabinetry refinishing and wider kitchen refinement projects from January onwards.

We were commissioned to refinish this 1909 slab kitchen ahead of installation, allowing the colour, finish and hardware to be considered as part of the overall design rather than treated as an update afterwards.

During the consultation we explored a number of colour directions with our clients, looking at how the cabinetry would sit alongside the worktops, flooring, natural light and the wider palette of the room. They ultimately settled on Paint & Paper Library Temple for the main cabinetry, paired with the depth of Farrow & Ball Deep Reddish Brown to create contrast through the island.

The final detail was Corston Antique Brass hardware, bringing warmth to the scheme and tying the two cabinetry colours together.

It’s exactly the kind of project we increasingly love working on: being involved early, helping make the design decisions, and then delivering the specialist finish that brings the whole scheme together.

A beautifully considered kitchen for a lovely family.

After and before: a well-made kitchen, carefully refined rather than replaced.

The existing cabinetry in this Bonvilston home was beautifully made and still structurally sound, but the colour, hardware and small alignment issues were beginning to make the room feel dated and unresolved.

Rather than replacing it, we refined the kitchen as a whole.

The cabinetry was professionally refinished in a colour matched to Farrow & Ball Vert de Terre, creating a softer and more cohesive relationship with the granite worktops and natural stone floor. The original square handles were replaced with Corston Milliner handles in Antique Brass, the lighting was updated, and doors were adjusted and realigned to restore a more considered finish.

The transformation is subtle, but significant: calmer, warmer and far better suited to the character of the home.

A proper kitchen refinement — preserving what was worth keeping and improving the details that made the greatest difference.

A small detail, but one that changes the whole feel of the space.
Solid oak window sill, made and fitted to sit comfortably within the scheme — warm, quiet, and intentional.
Every element on this project was considered. Not just colour, but material, tone, and how each part relates to the next.
