Rhydypenau Allotment Community Plot, is open to the public for free every Saturday morning from April - September. A Keep Wales Tidy Food Development Package!

Made by the community for the community, promoting access to nature, community & food growing.

We're all looking forward to the arrival of spring and today's sunshine is giving us hope that it might be around the corner! 🌞

We'll be sowing some of our earlier seeds over the next few weeks, such as our broad beans 🫘 and chillies 🌶

Whilst we always want our visitors to be involved through the whole growing process, we aren't able to reliably open the plot until the beginning of April due to the maintenance needs and the unpredictable weather.

If the good weather arrives earlier this year though, we'll keep you updated on this page on ad hoc sessions so you can sow some early seeds of your own.🌱

In the meantime, let us know what you're looking forward to planting in the comments, and if there are any early crops you'd like to have on the plot. 🌾

We'll do our best to source and sow the seeds so they're ready for you to take on when the plot reopens! 🌻

The weather is looking a little damp ☔️ so raincoats and welly boots recommended!

We do have welly boots you can borrow and we'll have plenty of hot drinks! ☕️

Zoe, Tim, Ruth and Pauline will be there to welcome you, offer you a cuppa and mince pie, and suggest some allotmenting activities you can get involved in if wanted.

Come and join us on the community plot on Saturday 6th December 10am-12pm!

We're not running our regular Saturday morning sessions, but we'll be doing a bit of ad hoc session to do a bit of tidying up and have a catch up.

We'll have some mince pies, hot drinks and some mulled wine for the grown ups as well as the usual biscuits! ☕️

Make sure to wrap up warm!

Come and join us on the community plot this Saturday morning!

We're not running our regular Saturday morning sessions, but we'll be doing a bit of ad hoc session to finish getting the plot ready for winter.

We'll be sowing green manure, clearing the plants that have finished and tidying up around the plot.

The weather is looking sunny (but make sure you dress warmly!) and we'll have biscuits and hot drinks as usual! ☕️

Come & join us on the community plot this Saturday morning for our final morning of 2025! We can't believe how quickly the summer has gone!

Ruth 🙋‍♀️ and Tim 🙋‍♂️will be there to welcome you, offer you a cuppa, and suggest some allotmenting activities you can get involved in if wanted.

We dug up the remaining potatoes last week so there's plenty to go round, as well as tomatoes, beans, some lettuce and still more late raspberries and strawberries to be picked!

Another great morning on the community plot on Saturday!

Next week will be the final week we are open for this season. We'll keep you updated on this page when we start these mornings up again.

Thanks to all who came along! 👍

This week we:

🍓Picked and ate the last of the raspberries
🥔Dug up the last of the potatoes (and hunted for worms
🥕 Pulled the last of the wonky "monster" carrots
🏵Did some weeding and trimmed back the nasturtiums
🌿 Cut back some brambles
📸 Practiced our photography and filming skills
🖍 Did some drawing in the cabin
☕ Enjoyed a cuppa and a chat with some of Connie and Fiona's delicious Nutella cake🍰

Thanks Zoë 🙋‍♀️ for facilitating this week. Next week we'll have Ruth 🙋‍♀️ and Tim 🙋‍♂️on hand to ensure there's tea and coffee as well as ideas of allotmenting tasks to do!

Everyone is welcome; whether you want to just have a cuppa or do some art in nature, or want to bring or learn skills.

Come along and see how food grows, help harvest, and take some home to eat (there's plenty!!)

A busy Show Day at the allotment for everyone, thank you all for coming! We were lucky to have sunshine all day 🌞

Huge thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers who made it possible, including Neil, Pauline, Ally and Emile who set up and organised the community plot in the morning 🙌

We got up to lots throughout the day, we:

🗺 Explored all around the site
🍓 Ate lots of raspberries
🌰 Gathered Acorns
🏃‍♀️Raced each other along the paths
🥔 Helped a neighbour turn their potato bed
🎨Did lots of painting, colouring and arts and crafts
🎃 Harvested corn, carrots and little pumpkin!

🥕 Fin entered a carrot from the plot in the wonky veg category and won second place! 🏆

🏆 Our wonderful volunteers Tim and Ruth won a Volunteer of the Year Award from Room2Reward for their volunteering on the Community Plot this year. They have given so much of their time and effort, working to inspire the next generation of allotmenteers. Well deserved and massive congratulations to them both! 🎉

🍁 It may be feeling more autumnal today, but the community plot will be open again next Saturday 13th September as normal from 10am-12pm.

Next week we'll have Pauline 🙋🏿‍♀️ on hand to ensure there's tea and coffee as well as ideas of allotmenting tasks to do!

Everyone is welcome; whether you want to just have a cuppa or do some art in nature, or want to bring or learn skills.

Another fantastic morning on the community plot on Saturday!

Thanks to all who came along (and there were lots of you!) 👍
This week we:

🍓Harvested a lot, particularly berries!
🪵Built some woven hazel edging for one of the beds
🥀Mowed the wildflower patch (it had already self-seeded and will come back even better next year!)
🍀Mowed the grass around the mud kitchen and beds
🧑‍🍳Played in the mud kitchen
🌱Did some weeding
👩‍🎨Did some drawing and painting
☕ Enjoyed a cuppa and a chat

Thanks Zoe 🙋‍♀️ for facilitating this week. Next week we'll have Neil 🙋‍♂️ on hand to ensure there's tea and coffee and help prepare for the show! We'll be making sure that our existing entries are ready to go and picking a few more of our veggies to enter!

The annual show will be taking place from 2 - 5pm, it's a chance for everyone to get together, show what they've been growing and celebrate our community!
