The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) supports the decarbonisation of heat in buildings. It provides upfront capital grants to support the installation of heat pumps and biomass boilers in homes and non-domestic buildings in England and Wales.

On Thursday 21 September 2023, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero issued a change notice in accordance with BUS Regulation 13(4) to increase the BUS grant level for air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps.

From 23 October 2023, the grant level for air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps will increase from £5,000 to £7,500!

In order to be eligible for a BUS-funded installation, a property must:
- Be in England and Wales
- Comply with the insulation requirements of the scheme, or be exempt from these (when you apply, you will need to provide evidence of this exemption)
- (Retrofits only) have an existing fossil-fuel or electric heating system that’s being replaced by the BUS-funded installation

Properties cannot be:
Social housing
- New builds (except where they are ‘self builds’ that have been built mainly using the labour or resources of the first owner and have never been owned by a business or organisation)

ASHP installation this week in Norfolk, traditional cottage. Sometimes space can be tight, but with a pre-plumbed joule cylinder, space can be kept and hot water delivered during to rest of the installation.

Heat pumps are more than twice as efficient as fossil fuel heating systems in cold temperatures, research shows.

Even at temperatures approaching -30C, heat pumps outperform oil and gas heating systems, according to the research from Oxford University and the Regulatory Assistance Project thinktank.

This 1600c farm house, located in Killington Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, recently had Internal Wall insulation.

Apple eco carried out full system installation with new pipework, radiators, cylinder and Samsung outdoor unit.
