After a trip to the Quilting and sewing show at The Royal Welsh show ground in Builth last weekend, I’ve inevitably been bitten by the quilting bug!

I was veering towards making a quilt to top the bed with, after playing with patchwork for my sofa last year.

I’m going to make a sampler quilt of my own design -having never done this, I want to experiment with different patterns, there’s no way I can decide on one!!
I’m still rifling through my stash to see what else I have, but I’m liking what’s going on so far! 😊

While awaiting tools to complete another project I decided to play with the bag of leather offcuts under my table!
By no means perfect (even my industrial machine wasn’t keen on the leather!) but it’s only for me! 😊

Pinch Punch!
It’s pumpkin month 😜

Finally got around to painting these gems.
I took the photo (well, about 30 photos) in 2020 with the intention of painting them, but with so much going on I’ve not been settled enough.
Great to be picking up my brushes again after such a long time 😊

Recovered the chairs from a little dining set. There were so many staples!!!
Replaced the old, worn rust coloured fabric with a plush deep charcoal chenille, using the old covers as a template. The new upholstery has a gorgeous sheen and soft silky texture to it.

There was nothing wrong with the back foam, or seat pads really, but replaced the commode-like elasticated webbing with a traditional hessian version and added some firm foam under the original seat pads for good measure.
Comfortable enough for a three course dinner now, not just tea and cake 😁

🥳🥳🥳
Finished!!
Certainly a labour of love!
I found the continual start-stop of this project quite frustrating as I do tend to go into a tunnel on a make, not coming up for air until I’m done.
So this was even a lesson in patience!
I’m not a complete novice in every aspect of upholstery, having completed a good many sofa loose covers over the years, and a number of reupholstery jobs, though they’ve been smaller pieces of furniture; bedroom and dining chairs. But I am pretty much a novice at patchwork (only ever one cushion and a bedspread!) and have not worked with velvet much at all…both were quite testing at times!

This was a great opportunity to collaborate with my husband Richard (Carpenter & Joiner) both learning about sofa structure-what’s needed for robust strength and which of those parts can be utilised for webbing and affixing foam and upholstery cloth.
There are bits I/we’d do differently for sure, but as a first foray into the world of new, bespoke furniture making, we’re both pretty chuffed!!
😁

“Let’s make a sofa!”
Coming on a treat now I’ve had some time to concentrate on it!
Learning as I go, thinking through the shapes of each section, and the size & colour of the smaller velvet pieces & then working out which colour velvet I want to go where..which to be honest could have driven me bonkers!!

Keeping the nap of the velvet going in the right direction has been a bit of a mare!!

All the machine stitched seams are done, now to secure the upholstery to tge frame, then I’ll move on to the foam cushions.

😁
