The entrance to your house sets the tone for your home. It needs to be practical but also stylish. First impressions really do count
Design considerations
· Think where you will hang coats and put your shoes, if you don’t have a boot room or separate cloakroom.
· Ensure there is a place for keys, handbags, post and space for guests’ coats.
· Be careful with your lighting as you want it to be welcoming when people arrive. Perhaps a console with two table lamps. Maybe a mirror to bounce light and to check how you look as you are heading out the door.
· Panelling is incredibly useful in high traffic areas as you can paint it in a more durable paint, easy to wipe clean. It’s a practical solution for comings and goings.
· On the subject of paint: when choosing a colour be mindful of your lighting scheme and the amount of natural light in your hallway. Dark colours can be dramatic and make a space feel cosy and enclosed, whilst lighter colours will open up the space.
Above all you need to find storage solutions that make it feel clear and open, so it is practical and welcoming.
