Operation : Get rid of the Ground Elder 👍👩‍🌾
Ground Elder if you don’t know already is one of those invasive w**ds that you just don’t ever seem to get rid of……
It channels under the soil and has white coloured long roots that seem to go on forever.
I managed to get alot of the Ground Elder and its roots out but it will be a work in progress as this aggressive w**d doesn’t give up easily.
Overall border looking better though and a very pleased client. 👍👩‍🌾

It’s great to see all the new growth coming through once everything is cut back, w**ded and tidied.

Waterproof trousers washed again and ready to go…. I know I’ll look back and smile at this in the summer 👩‍🌾👩‍🌾👩‍🌾

Today is and why shouldn’t they have their own day. They are the first flower that pushes through, no matter what or where. They produce their own warmth which is why they can push away the snow to show off their faces and of course it’s the first sign of hope towards the spring. 🤍👩‍🌾

Some of this week’s work’s before and afters. It’s mostly been about clearing the w**ds and leaves to make way for the new growth.
Lovely to see lots of bulbs peeping through and the fabulous white of the snowdrops is a great reminder that spring is not far away. 👩‍🌾👩‍🌾👩‍🌾

Lots of people think that there isn’t much to do in the garden at this time of the year however there is still plenty to keep busy. For example :

Pruning/cutting back apple and pear trees, best to do this now whilst they are dormant
Cutting off older leaves and seed heads on your Hellebores - this will encourage and also could be hiding new flower buds underneath
Clearing leaves off the top of plants, especially those closer to the ground e.g Heucheras so that it doesn’t rot the leaves of the plants and to let the light ( and sun if we get it) get to them.
Cutting lower branches from deciduous trees to give more light to shrubs or plants below.
Planting bare root roses
Planting hedges
Pruning roses
General cutting back and w**ding to make way for the new growth.

Happy New Year to you all.
Here’s to making lots of new memories with family and friends. I’m looking forward to longer and warmer days and spending more time outside and in the garden.
