Langstone, Havant
Images showing project development of a project where the client loved the upstairs views and wanted to open up and frame them. We used an oriel window, a modern balcony and other features attached to a traditional form. Sleek clean lines and detail.

WEST LAVANT, CHICHESTER
We often share the wider picture when it comes to our services and the projects we work on. We wanted to take the chance this time to highlight a deeper level of involvement in the life of the projects that cross our doors such as the bespoke design and installation of these decorative grilles as part of the wider restoration and adaptation of a former historic stables building newly converted into a bright and full of character café.
A truly unique project from beginning to end, where the majority of the timber furniture and decorative elements such as the above grilles and finned heating covers have been designed and manufactured on site with both traditional joinery skills and also the use of modern tools such as laser cutters.
Keep an eye out for further images of the café furniture as well as a spotlight on how this project incorporated numerous sustainable practices throughout that considerably helped in reducing its carbon footprint.

LANGSTONE, HAVANT

Scan through this project to see how we developed it from a one-and-a-half-storey to a two-storey home with beautiful views out to the coast. We used an oriel window, a modern balcony and other features attached to a traditional form. The sleek clean lines of the oriel window aim to frame these views from the inside.

WEST LAVANT, CHICHESTER
2/2 The proposed front elevation of the 1980s 5-bedroom detached dwelling in West Lavant we had a look at last week.
The proposals included internal and external remodelling, 2.5 - storey side extension and roof conversion together with a replacement garden annexe and associated landscaping.
On the existing house, the red clay tile hangings on the first floor are proposed to be replaced with white render and the roof to be retiled with grey clay tiles. All existing uPVC windows are proposed to be replaced with double-glazed aluminium framed units. Old timber and uPVC entrance doors are proposed to be replaced with dark grey aluminium doors with sidelights.
New dark grey aluminium framed roof lights are proposed across the existing house, side extension and replacement annexe. Additionally, dark grey aluminium framed roof balconies are proposed for the side extension and existing house roof.

1/2 The proposed front elevation of the 1980s 5-bedroom detached dwelling in West Lavant we had a look at last week.
The proposals included internal and external remodelling, 2.5 - storey side extension and roof conversion together with a replacement garden annexe and associated landscaping.
The proposed material palette for the side extension consists of red brick on the ground floor, offering continuity with the existing house; on the first floor and roof, dark grey zinc cladding is introduced to highlight the new volume while at the same time complementing the existing material palette.

WEST LAVANT, CHICHESTER
Great progress on site in West Lavant, on our bespoke educational project in the South Downs National Park. We have been working together with Bishop Luffa Learning Partnership, Lavant House Academy and Launchpad Charitable Trust to provide an alternative, nature-inspired, learning environment which will enable pupils to learn in a way that maximises their chances of success as students. The modular small-scale classroom shells have been erected and weatherproofed ready for the installation of glazing and the external cladding envelope. More updates to come shortly.

WEST LAVANT, CHICHESTER
Renovation of historic properties often entails preserving existing historic floorboards and sourcing high-quality boards to supplement and complete the existing layouts.
At Lavant House, we started this process by measuring and mapping out the existing sizes and configurations of the existing floorboards and identifying the location and quantity of additional materials needed. As part of the conservation strategy, it is always important to select appropriately between reclaimed historic boards or hand-aged, engineered boards, considering the type of timber, available widths, and board thicknesses to maintain a flush surface throughout when installed.
Finally, blending the new boards with the old is key and it is important to carefully select a stain/wax or other desired finish appropriately. Offering sample boards against the old fabric is a worthwhile exercise. The sample boards can be later used to benchmark quality across the duration of the project.

WEST LAVANT, CHICHESTER
The new staircase connecting the first and second floors at Lavant House is taking shape, with the installation of the steel supporting structure and temporary timber threads and balustrade. When finalised, the new stairs will incorporate floating threads cloaked in ash timber veneers and a frameless glass balustrade. The new stairs replace an unsympathetic late 20th-century timber structure and were designed to juxtapose through clean minimalistic lines and quality materials the existing historic fabric of the house.
