The Open Prize

The Open Prize The Open Prize: a competition dedicated to the Video Painting. Video paintings are filmed in a single long take with a stationary camera.

Following the success of The Open Prize 2010, the 2011 Prize opens for submissions from all UK-based practicing artists at all stages of their career. They contain no edits or subsequent manipulation, thus suppressing the narrative styles common to our everyday encounters with moving image. There is no dialogue, no sound. The possible styles, themes and subjects explored by artists within these pa

rameters are vast. The Open Prize’s intention is to uncover new, unique and exciting works through this platform by artists who have been drawn to the medium from a wide range of artistic fields and backgrounds. From the initial applicants, 10 artists will be short-listed in July 2011. The work of these artists will form a prominent exhibition at a high profile London Venue in October 2011. A panel of judges including Open Gallery founder Hilary Lawson will select the overall winner, who will go on to be represented by Open Gallery and receive a prize of £500 to help launch and support the production of new video projects.
