It’s Aeration Time!

I’m taking booking for aerations within the next couple of weeks. Message me if you want to be added to my list. Unsure on what an aeration is? See below and decide if your lawn would benefit.

———————————————————————————

What is lawn aeration and why does it matter?

Over time, soil can become compacted from foot traffic, weather, and general use. When this happens, it makes it harder for your lawn to get the air, water, and nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

Lawn aeration is the process of making small holes in the soil to relieve that compaction and help your lawn “breathe” again.

Benefits of aeration:
• Improves drainage and reduces waterlogging
• Helps nutrients reach the roots more effectively
• Encourages stronger, deeper root growth
• Reduces moss and thatch build-up
• Leads to a thicker, greener, healthier lawn

It’s especially beneficial in spring and autumn, giving your grass the best chance to recover and thrive.

If your lawn feels hard underfoot or struggles to grow evenly, aeration can make a big difference.

Don’t Cut Your Lawn Too Short!

One of the most common mistakes people make when mowing their lawn is cutting it too short. It might look tidy at first, but it can actually damage your grass and lead to more problems later.

!!!Never remove more than 1/3 of the grass height!!!

DO:

• Keep your mower height higher (around 3 inches or more)

• Mow regularly to maintain a healthy lawn

• Keep mower blades sharp for a clean cut

• DON’T cut the grass too short it will…

• Stress your lawn leaving the lawn thin and vulnerable to weeds and disease.

• Damage the root system.

If you want a healthy, well-maintained lawn without the hassle, CDM Gardens can help!

🌱 Thinking of cutting your grass? Hold off!

With temperatures still low, and frost forecast, cutting your lawn too soon can do more harm than good.

Benefits of waiting:

Protects grass roots from cold stress and frost damage

Allows the lawn to strengthen naturally as soil temperatures rise

Encourages healthier, thicker growth later in spring
Reduces the risk of disease and patchy regrowth

Cons of cutting too early:

Weakens grass that hasn’t fully come out of winter dormancy

Leaves lawns vulnerable to frost, slowing recovery

Can result in thin, uneven growth and more weeds

Patience now means a greener, stronger lawn for the season ahead. If you’re unsure when the right time is, CDM Gardens is always happy to advise 🌿

🌿 Beat the Moss Before Spring! 🌿

Did you know the colder months are perfect for tackling moss in your lawn?
At CDM Gardens, we use iron sulphate treatments to control moss safely and effectively, leaving your grass greener, stronger, and ready to thrive when spring arrives.

Why treat moss now?

• Moss thrives in cool, damp weather — stopping it early prevents it from spreading.

• Iron sulphate blackens and kills moss fast, improving lawn health and appearance.

• Regular winter treatment means less moss, fewer bare patches, and a thicker lawn come spring.

Let’s give your lawn the head start it deserves!
